Using interactive video tools to engage, express and assess beginning teachers in an online teacher induction program

This session will report on the innovative uses of Web 2.0 video tools that have been implemented in an online induction program. In this session, participants will have the opportunity to experience these tools as our teachers do and examine their potential for immersive learning, collaboration, and community in an online learning environment. These include: VideoANT, an embedded video annotation and discussion tool that teachers use to reflect on classroom video; and Flipgrid, an online video response tool that teachers use to communicate with one another in lieu of text-only alternatives. In addition to experiencing these tools and techniques, we will also facilitate a discussion about how these tools can be used to engage learners at distance, allow a more natural expression of participants’ ideas, and assess the learning of the teachers in an authentic way.
