Die Therapiewoche
Psychosomatic disorders are associated particularly frequently with disorders of the patients' relationship with their social environment. Accordingly, it is rational to attempt to treat them by means of a systemic intervention technique, e.g. in the family circle. A description is presented of a personally designed form of family confrontation, which may be applied by general practitioners interested in psychosomatic conditions. The goals of this technique are understanding of the structure and of the processes that occur in the familial system, and brief, specific intervention by the physician in order to enable the patient to give up his symptom.
