One of the greatest opportunities offered by BNs is to provide a much more rigorous and accurate method to determine the combined impact of multiple types of evidence in a case (including, where relevant, absence of evidence). In particular, this applies urgently to any case in which DNA evidence with match probabilities is presented (hence avoiding the kind of errors highlighted in (Langley, 2012)).
