ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to conduct a brief study of the economic value of coastal and marine biodiversity in Indonesia. Indonesia has an abundance of coastal and marine biodiversity. Coastal and marine biodiversity include mangrove, seagrass and coral reef ecosystems. The total area of Indonesian mangroves in 2016 was 3,668,345.60 hectares, while the seagrass ecosystem was 474,920.93 hectares and the coral reef ecosystem reached 2,424,721.23 hectares. The value of Indonesia's biodiversity wealth in 2016 is estimated to reach IDR 1,353.55 trillion, consisting of a wealth of mangrove biodiversity of IDR 340.46 trillion, seagrass ecosystems of IDR 76.29 trillion and coral reef ecosystems amounting to IDR 935.80 trillion. This value can be said to be the minimum value that can be given, because the development of techniques and models for valuing ecosystem services will continue to develop to be even more detailed in conducting economic valuation of ecosystem services in the future.
