Floods are one of the most frequent natural hazards worldwide. The most common way to protect an area from immersion is using dikes. The application of sheet pile wall is a standard solution to increase slope stability and reduce the seepage phenomenon. The examined dike section is situated in Hungary along the Körös river, a tributary of the Tisza river. This paper is a numerical study using finite-element software PLAXIS 2D to examine the effect of sheet piles on enhancing the slope stability of dikes and water seepage through soil layers during flood with two different scenarios. The first one is a specific scenario that lasts for 6 days. The second (general) scenario is characterized by a 15-day flood. Different positions of the sheet pile along the cross-section were analyzed to determine the most favorable location according to the above-mentioned aspects.
