Three types of groups with distinct perspectives on control chart methods are presented, namely, group 1 is primarily interested in the broad, effective application of standard control chart methods to many different fields, industries, and departments within a company; group 2 is interested in the development and application of advanced control chart techniques for industrial processes where on-line data are abundant and where rapid response to out-of-control conditions is critical; and group 3 has an academic interest in control chart methods. Statistical challenges within these three groups are also discussed.
