First of all, it is based only on three studies; second, we observed large heterogeneity in effect sizes; and last but not least, only one study compared BPD with a specific personality disorder (schizotypal personality disorder), showing no difference in the level of dissociation (d = -.05). In particular, the previous result is consistent with several empirical findings that showed that traits from schizotypal personality disorder are related to DES scores (Spiegel & Cardena, 1991) and that the schizotypy dimension is associated with dissociative tendencies (Bauer & Power, 1995;Giesbrecht, Merckelbach, Kater, & Sluis, 2007;Irwin, 1998;Merckelbach, Rassin, & Muris, 2000;Startup, 1999). As a consequence, future studies are needed to clarify the role of dissociation not only focusing on BPD but taking into account all personality disorders. ...
