... With the exception of the Stormberg Gp., sills and saucer-shaped sills clearly dominate the overall intrusive system of the Karoo in comparison to the relatively rare dykes (e.g., Chevallier & Woodford, 1999). Sills and saucer-shaped sills are in general >10 km in diameter in the deepest stratigraphy, while smaller sills of ≤10 km in diameter intruded the upper part of the Karoo stratigraphy (Chevallier & Woodford, 1999;Du Toit, 1920). Sill thicknesses vary between 50 and 150 m (Galerne et al., 2008;Chevallier & Woodford, 1999;Galerne et al., 2010). ...

... The LPIA is a broad interval of time in which multiple glaciations took place over Gondwana (Isbell et al., 2012;Montañez and Poulson, 2013), with an acme in southern Africa straddling the latest Carboniferous-earliest Permian . In recent years, concerted efforts to improve geochronology (Griffis et al., 2019a(Griffis et al., , 2019b have allowed the timing of the LPIA in southern Africa to be greatly improved, building on a rich tradition of research stretching back more than a century (Lomas et al., 1905;Du Toit, 1921;Sutherland, 1870;Martin, 1961;Visser, 1983Visser, , 1997. LPIA glacial deposits are recognised over wide areas of southern and central Africa (Catuneanu et al., 2005), and the record of glaciation has left a strong imprint on the modern landscape over much of the region (Dietrich et al., in review). ...
