The recent increase in oil prices and the rush to bring on new natural gas-fired power generation have combined to make a price spike of 4 in the summer months a possibility, according to the ″The Boom in Natural Gas Markets- Fact or Fiction″ study by Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co. However, the report also assured that present demand and supply levels have reached an equilibrium, making a forecast of about 2.60/Mcf in 2000 closer to reality. Another report, from CIBC World Markets, also forecast higher gas demand during summer than winter by 2005-06.
