    ABSTRACT: A new graphics processing units (GPU) based surface subdivision algorithm was presented to fully utilize GPU's powerful computation and parallel processing capability and overcome the data transferring bottleneck between CPU and GPU. The algorithm calculated the subdivision levels adaptively. Subdivision pattern (SP) was used to execute computation for the control net data transferred from CPU to GPU running on vertex processors. SP can be extended by using fringes to solve the watertight problem for adaptive subdivision. The algorithm was applied to Catmull-Clark scheme and Loop scheme and can be easily extended to other subdivision schemes with other GPU shaders. The algorithm has the minimum GPU requirement and can run on any GPU supporting vertex shaders. Experimental results show that the algorithm is superior to the CPU based and fragment processor based algorithms.

    ABSTRACT: A novel algorithm to reconstruct triangle meshes for 3D noisy point cloud was proposed. By integrating quadric error potential function with extremal surface, Bayesian probabilistic model was used to estimate the intrinsic property of point cloud. The algorithm uses an iterative clustering to improve the noise tolerance in geometric accuracy, while preserves the sharp features. After denoising, a new point set was generated by using surface splatting, which decimated adaptively the point cloud. The reconstruction mesh from the new point set adopts non-Delaunay triangulation method, which searches neighboring points by a spatial sphere progressively growing along the surface of object. A new triangle was generated according to the tradeoff between Delaunay optimum principle and sharp feature measurement. Experimental results show that the object's detail features are preserved after meshing, and the algorithm is quick and robust.

    ABSTRACT: Based on characteristics of production procedure control in agile supply chain management, a novel hierarchical scheme was proposed for production procedure monitoring based on multiple monitoring modes. In the synergic production procedure monitoring, four monitoring modes were defined according to the significance of the items in the entire production process and monitoring requirements. These monitoring modes were product level monitoring, inventory level monitoring, component level monitoring and process level monitoring. Based on the defined monitoring modes, a collaboration control mechanism was proposed to minimize the sum of the tardiness in the supply chain production. The collaboration could be achieved through the combinational use of local collaboration, global collaboration and task reallocation. The application demonstrated that this approach has achieved the optimal production planning and control, and was applicable to practical production in supply chain.

    ABSTRACT: In order to obtain more feasible and practical assembly process, a knowledge-based intelligent assembly planning was presented. After analyzing the characteristics of the assembly process of connectors, typical knowledge base and standard knowledge base were set up for assembly sequence planning. There were three ways to generate assembly sequences: (1) by retrieving the typical match, (2) by retrieving the standard match, and (3) by sequence planning using directed-connector. In addition, to minimize product assembly period and to improve the flexibility and reliability of assembly system, a multi-agent based approach for cooperative assembly task planning was presented, which considered factors such as the assembly processing time and the time needed for the manipulators to change tools.

    ABSTRACT: To satisfy the personalized requirements for micro-electroacoustic products and improve the efficiency of product design, a hybrid configuration approach was proposed which integrated Case Based Retrieval method with Rule-based product configuration design and oriented to mass customization. The design process mainly consisted of two phases. In the first phase, based on a generic product structure model, a rule-based configuration arithmetic engine was used to configure a new product structure according to users' requirements. Then, a similarity-based case match method was applied to find an existing product case to match the customers' demand for reference. Key concepts and principles of the proposed method were explained, and the object model and arithmetic process were also provided. Compared with the traditional design method, the product development cycle could be dramatically reduced and meet the requirement of mass customization of enterprises. Finally application of the proposed method in an innovative design of the product of an electroacoustic enterprise was given.

    ABSTRACT: This paper describes a preliminary attempt at using semantic Web paradigm, especially the Web Ontology Language (OWL), for functional design knowledge representation during collaborative functional modeling in engineering design. Towards extending our previous work on behavior-driven function-environment-structure (B-FES) modeling with capabilities of knowledge sharing and distributed problem solving, an ontology-based scheme for B-FES modeling, called B-FES/o, is proposed for semantic Web applications. As an illustration, the functional model of an automatic assembly system for manufacturing electronic connectors has used OWL format as its knowledge representation scheme.

    ABSTRACT: To build a top-down design supporting system, an effective assembly model for top-down design and its efficient algorithm of assembly planning were developed. After analyzing the process of top-down design, an approach to build the product model at multiple levels of detail (LOD model) for top-down design was presented. In this LOD model, the super-component model and the simplified-component model were the simplified representations of different complex assemblies. A novel approach was proposed to generate assembly sequences layer upon layer, and step by step. The computation complexity of assembly planning was reduced dramatically due to efficient simplification of the model and the obtained assembly sequences were more feasible and practical.

    ABSTRACT: Appropriate manufacturing strategy is critical for the implementation of supply chain management. The fundamental question in the development of manufacturing strategy is to determine whether the company produces by itself. After analyzing the characteristics of manufacturing strategies systematically, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization model that can assist the company to select and evaluate the appropriate manufacturing strategies efficiently. Based on ISO9000 and ISO14000 series standards, some quantitative indexes are chosen to establish the selection and evaluation system. With the help of these evaluation indexes, the decision model addresses manufacturing processes, logistics, support systems and costs. Following the process of this model, the company can decide and evaluate the manufacturing strategies effectively, and choose the appropriate vendors and partners.

    ABSTRACT: Using Octree recursive subdivision to find all the cells straddling the implicit surface is a commonly-used approach to improve the efficiency of polygonization. Its efficiency is determined by the accuracy and speed of judging whether a cube intersects with the surface. Based on interval analysis, a quite accurate criterion is presented by using the particular property of metaball density function, which drastically speeds up the polygonization of metaball based implicit surfaces. Simplex decomposition is used as the disambiguation method. And the problem which needs attention in the decomposition process is also pointed out.
