[Show abstract][Hide abstract] ABSTRACT: The aqueous leaf extract of Euphorbia hirta decreased the gastrointestinal motility in normal rats and decreased the effect of castor oil-induced diarrhoea in mice.
[Show abstract][Hide abstract] ABSTRACT: Alcoholic extract of Pedilanthus tithymaloides leaves (PLE) was evaluated for its effect on normal rabbit skin, carrageenin-induced acute rat paw inflammation and cotton pellet granuloma, a sub-acute inflammatory condition. A dose-dependent (0.25-1.0g) increase in the thickness of rabbit skin and inflamed paw of rat was observed after the topical application of PLE up to 24 and 5 h respectively. The extract also showed a dose dependent (0.1-0.4 g) increase in the weight of cotton pellet granuloma in rats. It is concluded from the present study that the PLE possesses a pro-inflammatory property, which justifies the use of P. tithymaloides leaves in the ripening of abscess.
