Music is the literature of the heart; it commences where speech ends.” Music is a stimulating and engaging method to teach literature in the classroom. Pop songs have always been used as a resource to promote language learning, but other genres are not that popular among teachers. Rap, for example, has a bad reputation among educators for their sometimes, explicit lyrics and unorthodox content.
... [Show full abstract] This article therefore focuses on how teachers can use rap songs to promote not just oral fluency, but how to get students to learn poetry in a fun and motivating way. Furthermore, recent studies indicated that rap improves not just the learners’ language skills, but also their confidence. In this session, I will use examples of activities that have been tried and tested with my learners and their feedback on these will also be shared.
