Abstract

This chapter introduces a methodology of metaplastic discipline for the realization of new virtual world. It explains the theoretical and artistic background of metaplastic virtual worlds evolutions, from their archetypes to their definition. The union between the plastic elements and the fuzzy logic systems, found its expression with new metaplastic aesthetic values. The virtual media acquire form and meaning through its process of conceptual interpretation. The metaphor of the artistic machine finds its new realization where the machine itself becomes aesthetic expression of the virtuality. The following paragraphs use metaplastic definitions within Art and Sciences application fields. In the conclusion of this chapter, two practical examples will be introduced.

The globalization of the real world we live has been almost exploding in its speed and scale spatiotemporally in all the key aspects including business, economy, industry, education and culture, making it hard for human beings to cognize what's going on and deal with them . Thus the links between the real world and conceptual world is getting weaker. The globalization is mainly driven by the Web-based activities in their cyberspaces creating cyberworlds as seen in e-business, e-commerce, e-manufacturing and cultural heritages through the Web and on the Web. Thus the links between the real world and cyberworlds are ever becoming tighter nonlinearly in time and space. It is now crucial to find a way to automatically integrate the dynamically changing worlds, namely the real world, cyberworlds and conceptual worlds, fast enough to cope with the rapid changes. It is a hard task owing to the vast complexity of the worlds to be integrated, and it requires an advanced abstraction modeling. This is an interim progress report on it, presenting the outline based on the previous works on the abstraction hierarchy modeling of cyberworlds to realize an incrementally modular hierarchical modeling of cyberworlds via attaching spaces as quotient spaces and attaching maps. Attaching spaces are also for unique integration of the worlds that are real, cyber, and/or conceptual. They also guarantee liner interoperability of the integrated worlds to eliminate the combinatorial explosion of the computing in their complexity.

The complexity of abstract art languages create new semantics in art. This model tries to implement its conceptual language within creating a new virtual environment. The gap between art and technology has been approached with a fuzzy logic engine which uses a red and black semantic codification. The examples include the application of this metalanguage to a virtual artwork experimentation.

A considerable amount of research has been done on the notions of pseudo complement, intersection and union of fuzzy sets [1], [4], [11]. Most of this work consists of generalizations or alternatives of the basic concepts introduced by L. A. Zadeh in his famous paper [13]: generalization of the unit interval to arbitrary complete and completely distributive lattices or to Boolean algebras [2]; alternatives to union and intersection using the concept of t-norms [3], [10]; alternative complements in the unit interval in [4], [11], a.s.o. Although it is usually accepted that I := [0,1] is a natural generalization of {0,1} and that a --> 1 - a is a natural generalization of the Boolean complement on {0,1}, we do however not find canonical and mathematical justification for this fact, which nevertheless lies at the heart of the definition of fuzzy sets. It is the purpose of this note to present a canonical way of obtaining I and L. A. Zadeh's pseudocomplement. Moreover, if we consistently use this canonical machine we shall see that also other set-concepts can, and maybe should have been extended to fuzzy sets. Further we also give a possible generalization involving a choice of arbitrary t-norms.

ATTEMPTED "TO SHOW THAT THE ROLE OF PRIMARY AFFECTIVE AROUSAL IS TO SUSTAIN OR TERMINATE ACTIVITIES ACCORDING TO THE HEDONIC PRINCIPLE OF MAXIMIZING THE POSITIVE AND MINIMIZING THE NEGATIVE, AND TO ORGANIZE DISPOSITIONS WHICH THEMSELVES BECOME REGULATIVE . . . .(AND TO) DEMONSTRATE THAT A MULTIPLE-ASPECT, ECLECTIC, APPROACH TO PROBLEMS OF AFFECTIVE AROUSAL IS USEFUL. AND, FINALLY, THAT THE CONCEPT OF AFFECTIVE AROUSAL IS CENTRAL IN IMPORTANCE FOR A POSSIBLE SCIENCE OF VALUE AND FOR PSYCHOLOGY AS A WHOLE." (27 REF.)
