Abstract

الألوان هي جزء من عالمنا ولا قيمة لما نراه دونها، ولهذا كان الغرض من هذا البحث الإجابة على التساؤل الذي يسعى إلى التحقيق في التأثير السيكولوجي والفسيولوجي للون ملابس المرضى على المرضى المقيمين في بيئات الرعاية الصحية. وقد اتبعت الدراسة منهج المراجعة المنهجية Systematic Review للتحقق من مدى تأثير ألوان ملابس المرضى في بيئات الرعاية الصحية. ولقد تم تطبيق إجراءات متسلسلة لتحقيق هدف الدراسة ابتداء بصياغة تساؤل الدراسة الرئيسي وصولاً إلى وضع معايير لاختيار وإدراج واستبعاد الدراسات السابقة وانتهاء إلى الخروج بالنتائج ومناقشتها. وإجمالا، أكدت النتائج على وجود علاقة قوية بين اللون وبين البيئة المحيطة بالإنسان، فاللون ليس مجرد إضافة جمالية لملابس المريض فحسب، بل هو أداة أثّرت على مزاجية ونفسية المريض بشكل إيجابي وفعال وانعكس تأثيره على سلوكياته وعلى تواصله مع البيئة المحيطة. وبالتالي فإن نتائج الدراسة الحالية أثبتت أهمية العناية باختيار اللون داخل بيئات الرعاية الصحية، لا سيما في ملابس المرضى لما له من قدرة تأثيرية على تحفيز الاستجابات المتعلقة باللاوعي لدى المريض سواء كانت بطريقة إيجابية أو سلبية. Colors are an integral part of our world, and what we see would be meaningless without them. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to address the question investigating the psychological and physiological impact of patient clothing colors on inpatients in healthcare environments. The study adopted the **Systematic Review** methodology to examine the extent to which patient clothing colors influence healthcare settings. A series of structured procedures were implemented to achieve the study’s objective, beginning with the formulation of the main research question, followed by establishing criteria for selecting, including, and excluding previous studies, and concluding with deriving and discussing the findings. Overall, the results confirmed a strong relationship between color and the surrounding environment. Color is not merely an aesthetic addition to patient attire but a tool that significantly and positively influences patients’ moods and psychological states, which, in turn, affects their behavior and interactions with their surroundings. Consequently, the findings of this study highlight the importance of carefully selecting colors within healthcare settings, particularly in patient clothing, due to its profound impact on triggering subconscious responses—whether positive or negative.

ABSTRACT
Colors play a fundamental role in our world, imbuing significance into our
perceptions. Thus, the aim of this research was to explore the psychological and
physiological effects of patient clothing colors on individuals in healthcare settings.
The study employed a Systematic Review methodology to examine the impact of
patient clothing colors within healthcare contexts. Sequential steps were taken to
achieve the study's objectives, beginning with formulating the primary research
question, establishing criteria for selecting and excluding previous studies, and
concluding with the presentation and discussion of results. Overall, the findings
confirmed a robust relationship between color and the human environment. Color goes
beyond mere aesthetic appeal in patient clothing; it serves as a tool that positively and
effectively influences patients' mood and psyche, ultimately affecting their behavior
and interaction with their surroundings. Consequently, the study's results underscored
the importance of carefully choosing colors in healthcare environments, especially in
patient clothing, given its significant potential to elicit unconscious responses in
patients, whether positive or negative.

Colour makes an immediate visual impact and creates mood. Physicists, physiologists, psychologists and industrialists work with the visual and emotional effects of colours. Our emotional reactions to certain colours are partly due to the symbolic meanings that have association with them. In the earlier days, colours were used to convey definite ideas to the people who were unable to read. White was employed for innocence, black for evil or death, grey for penitence, red for love, blue for sincerity or hope etc. Colour because of its emotional effect upon us, is largely responsible for the atmosphere of a home. It is capable of soothing or irritating, cheering or depressing, charming or boring, welcoming or repelling. An important thing for a decorator to know is how to use colour for its emotional effect. Different colours excite different emotional responses and some persons are more sensitive and more stimulated than others.

The purpose of this research was to review the psychology of colors in marketing. People make their minds about product or people within 90 seconds. About 62 to 90 % of a product or people assessment is based on colors alone. Thus, a color is not only using to differentiate your product from your competitors, but it also affects the moods and feelings of the individual buyers, thus colors make attitude towards a certain product. Human feelings and moods are changeable overtime; thus, every marketing managers should know the importance of colors and make their products or packaging accordingly. This study evaluates the literature linking to color psychology. The study found that colors play an important role in marketing. Managers should give immense attention to their brands and products colors in order to attract a large number of customers. Limitations and future research agenda are presented.

Background Environmental stimuli and well-being are considered to be significant factors in patients’ rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to describe the effect of colors and art in hospital rooms on patients’ recovery after total hip or knee arthroplasty. Methods We performed a prospective randomized, controlled study including 80 patients. The intervention group was randomized to colored patient rooms while the control group received medical care in conventional patient rooms. Data were collected preoperatively and postoperatively (3 and 6 days after operation). We measured mood, anxiety and depression, quality of life (QOL) and pain. Results Significantly better QOL summary scores were measured in the intervention group (6 days postoperative) compared to the control group (physical component summary score 37.1 ± 5.0 vs. 34.1 ± 6.7; p = 0.029 and mental component summary score 51.6 ± 6.6 vs. 47.2 ± 8.4; p = 0.015). Postoperatively, we found decreased total mood scores in both groups showing better results for the intervention group without significant differences ( p = 0.353; p = 0.711). Conclusion The use of colors in hospital rooms is an effective intervention to improve well-being and to enhance faster rehabilitation. We could demonstrate a positive effect of colors on patients’ postoperative QOL.

In Western societies, the stereotype prevails that pink is for girls and blue is for boys. A third possible gendered colour is red. While liked by women, it represents power, stereotypically a masculine characteristic. Empirical studies confirmed such gendered connotations when testing colour-emotion associations or colour preferences in males and females. Furthermore, empirical studies demonstrated that pink is a positive colour, blue is mainly a positive colour, and red is both a positive and a negative colour. Here, we assessed if the same valence and gender connotations appear in widely available written texts (Wikipedia and newswire articles). Using a word embedding method (GloVe), we extracted gender and valence biases for blue, pink, and red, as well as for the remaining basic colour terms from a large English-language corpus containing six billion words. We found and confirmed that pink was biased towards femininity and positivity, and blue was biased towards positivity. We found no strong gender bias for blue, and no strong gender or valence biases for red. For the remaining colour terms, we only found that green, white, and brown were positively biased. Our finding on pink shows that writers of widely available English texts use this colour term to convey femininity. This gendered communication reinforces the notion that results from research studies find their analogue in real word phenomena. Other findings were either consistent or inconsistent with results from research studies. We argue that widely available written texts have biases on their own, because they have been filtered according to context, time, and what is appropriate to be reported.

Patients’ emotional responses to the hospital environment can be considered as important as medical technology and equipment. Therefore, this study investigated their experiences to determine whether the pattern using hospital identity (HI) elements, a widely used design method for patient clothing in university hospitals, can affect their emotional response and contribute to healing. It aimed to identify whether controlling the motif characteristics, arrangement, and spacing in this pattern design, and the direction between motifs, could be a method to design patient clothing for healing. To investigate patients’ emotional response and suggestions for patient clothing design, an interview-based qualitative approach was used. In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 patients discharged from Kyung Hee University Hospital Medical Center (KHUMC), Seoul. The interview questions consisted of two parts. One part featured questions about participants’ emotional responses to the medical environment and their latest patient clothing experience, and the other featured questions about their emotional response to, and suggestions for, the healing expression of pattern design using HI. The results confirmed that the motif characteristics, arrangement, and spacing, and the direction between motifs, influenced patients’ positive emotions and contributed to the healing effect. Therefore, when the HI elements of a medical institution are applied in the design of patient clothing with the characteristics of a healing design, patients perceive this as providing stability and comfort. The design of patient clothing becomes a medium that not only builds the brand image of medical institutions, but also enhances the quality of medical services centered on patient healing.

Most people are familiar with the name of Florence Nightingale and the image of 'the lady with the lamp'. Initially celebrated for her efforts during the Crimean War, Nightingale is best known as a reformer of army medical services and of nursing more generally. She wrote Notes on Nursing - first published in 1859, but reprinted here in its revised and enlarged 1860 edition - in order to share her knowledge with women who were nursing their families at home. It was also required reading at the nursing school she opened at St Thomas' Hospital, the first of its kind, and at other such establishments. Still hailed today as important introductory reading for aspiring nurses, the text explains the centrality of ventilation, observation, hygiene, and diet during sickness, as well as care during convalescence. It also contains timeless instructions on how to nurture both the mind and body of the sick.

Background and objectives: To demonstrate that high color fidelity light-emitting diode (LED) sources are preferred by dermatologists for the evaluation of patients during standard-of-care, outpatient visits when compared to low color fidelity LED sources similar to fluorescent lighting. Study design/materials and methods: Three different LED sources were installed in exam rooms at a single, academic, medical institution (low color fidelity [82 color rendering index (CRI)] similar to fluorescent lighting, and high color fidelity [97 CRI and 96+red CRI]). A cross-sectional survey study was conducted in three parts. Naturalness (i.e. ability to reproduce natural, daylight conditions), effectiveness, color contrast, comfort, and overall performance of each LED source were rated on a 5-point scale from 0 to 4 with 0 being the worse, and 4 being the best. The first part included a survey of board-certified dermatologists (n = 3) assessing their visual experience while clinically evaluating a subset of patients during standard-of-care outpatient visits. The second survey was completed by dermatologic medical providers (n = 55) at three separate monthly departmental Grand Rounds sessions in which standardized patients were evaluated with the LED sources. Lastly, patients (n = 75) finished a survey assessing the comfort level of the LED sources. Results: In the first part of the study, all dermatologists significantly preferred the high color fidelity sources over low color fidelity sources based on all five evaluation criteria, with two preferring the 97 CRI LED source overall, while the third dermatologist favored 96+red CRI. Assessments provided by the 55 participants at Grand Rounds demonstrated that the 97 CRI was most "liked." Patients also preferred the high color fidelity LED source, reporting the 96+red CRI source was the "most comfortable." Conclusion: Dermatologists, dermatologists-in-training and mid-level providers significantly prefer high color fidelity LED sources for outpatient evaluation of dermatologist patients in enclosed spaces, rating them the more natural, effective, comfortable, and providing superior color contrast than low color sources. Color therapy is also known as chromotherapy, color therapy, colorology or cromatherapy. In this chapter it gives meanings of various colors, what colors means, how do they affect mood and personality of person.
