Abstract

Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica entre el año 2016 y el año 2024 sobre los beneficios en el cabello al usar semillas de Cáñamo. Como resultado de esta revisión, se pudo evidenciar que existen varios componentes de la semilla de cáñamo que pueden beneficiar la salud del cabello: como los emolientes hidratantes, ácido linoleico (Omega-6), ácido linoleico (Omega-3), ácido palmítico, ácido esteárico, los taninos, las vitaminas A, C y E

Abstract
Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica entre el año 2016 y el año 2024 sobre los
beneficios en el cabello al usar semillas de Cáñamo. Como resultado de esta revisión,
se pudo evidenciar que existen varios componentes de la semilla de cáñamo que
pueden beneficiar la salud del cabello: como los emolientes hidratantes, ácido
linoleico (Omega-6), ácido linoleico (Omega-3), ácido palmítico, ácido esteárico, los
taninos, las vitaminas A, C y E
La piel y el cabello:
La piel y el cabello representan 1/6 del peso corporal y son dos de los tejidos de más
rápido crecimiento en el cuerpo humano. Además de tener varios mecanismos
fisiológicos y protectores importantes, siempre han tenido un papel esencial en
nuestra apariencia y autopercepción. La cantidad y calidad de nuestra piel y cabello
nos ayudan a definir el género, la edad, la salud y el estado. Convencionalmente, el
enfoque se centra en la salud del cabello o en el estado dermatológico de la piel. Sin
embargo, estudios recientes han demostrado que son mutuamente inclusivos. La
salud estructural y la estabilidad de la piel y el cabello conducen a una correlación
interdependiente entre los dos (Smith & Powell, 2024)
El cabello:
El folículo piloso está compuesto por más de 20 tipos de células, y las células de la
papila dérmica derivadas del mesodermo y los queratinocitos contribuyen
cooperativamente al crecimiento del cabello a través de la vía de señalización Wnt/β-
catenina (Park et al., 2021)

La hipotricosis de las cejas constituye una fuente importante de angustia para las
personas, que afecta su confianza en mismas y su comunicación no verbal
(Saengsuriyarit & nitayavardhana, 2024)
Beneficios de los componentes de la semilla de cáñamo para el cabello:
El aceite de cáñamo se comercializa como un tratamiento cosmético eficaz para el
cabello, con afirmaciones de que la aplicación directa del aceite al cabello tiene
beneficios hidratantes, puede ayudar al crecimiento del cabello, puede proteger el
cabello y ayudar a reparar el daño, y el aceite puede agregar brillo al cabello
(Bakowska-Barczak et al., 2022).
Los emolientes hidratantes de alto rendimiento del aceite de semilla de cáñamo lo
convierten en un ingrediente ideal tanto para la sequedad como para las afecciones
del cuero cabelludo. El ácido linoleico (Omega-6) promueve el crecimiento del cabello
y la hidratación del cabello. El ácido palmítico tiene propiedades emolientes. Suaviza
el cabello sin dejarlo grasoso. El ácido esteárico muestra propiedades limpiadoras que
purgan la suciedad, el sebo y el sudor del cabello. Los taninos también ayudan a
prevenir la caída del cabello.[78] (Baral et al., 2020).
El aceite de cáñamo hidrata el cuero cabelludo y el cabello, estimula el crecimiento del
cabello y previene la rotura del mismo. Masajear con aceite de cáñamo aumenta la
circulación sanguínea en el cuero cabelludo. También ayuda a controlar la caspa (Barve
& Dighe, 2016).
El Omega -3 y Omega -6 son dos de los ácidos grasos importantes que se encuentran
en el aceite de semilla de cáñamo. Estos componentes esenciales aseguran que se
mantenga el contenido de humedad de su cabello. El aceite de semilla de cáñamo
utiliza estos mismos ácidos grasos para dar grosor al tallo del cabello (Imam et al.,
2024).
Las vitaminas A, C y E se encuentran entre los componentes del aceite de semilla de
cáñamo que normalmente cuidan el cabello y el cuero cabelludo (Imam et al., 2024)
La densidad y el diámetro del cabello aumentan cuando se usa aceite de semilla de
cáñamo de forma rutinaria (Imam et al., 2024)

Androgenetic alopecia is a genetic disorder that commonly causes progressive hair loss in men, leading to diminished self-esteem. Although cannabinoids extracted from Cannabis sativa are used in hair loss treatments, no study has evaluated the effects of germinated hemp seed extract (GHSE) and exosomes derived from the calli of germinated hemp seeds on alopecia. Therefore, this study aimed to demonstrate their preventive effects against alopecia using various methodolo-gies, including quantitative PCR, flow cytometry, ELISA, and immunocytochemistry. Our research highlights the preventive functions of GHSE (GE2000: 2000 µg/mL) and exosomes from the calli of germinated hemp seeds (E40: 40 µg/mL) in three biochemical categories: genetic modulation in hair follicle dermal papilla stem cells (HFDPSCs), cellular differentiation, and immune system modulation. Upon exposure to dihydrotestosterone (DT), both biomaterials upregulated genes preventing alopecia (Wnt, β-catenin, and TCF) in HFDPSCs and suppressed genes activating alopecia (STAT1, 5α-reductase type 1, IL-15R). Additionally, they suppressed alopecia-related genes (NKG2DL, IL2-Rβ, JAK1, STAT1) in CD8 + T cells. Notably, E40 exhibited more pronounced effects compared to GE2000. Consequently, both E40 and GE2000 effectively mitigated DT-induced stress, activating mechanisms promoting hair formation. Given the limited research on alopecia using these materials, their pharmaceutical development promises significant economic and health benefits.

Known for its natural bio-compounds and therapeutic properties, hemp is being utilized in the development of skin products. These products offer a wide range of applications and benefits in the fields of natural bio-compounds, pharmaceutical technology, topical delivery systems, and cosmeceuticals. This manuscript deals with hemp actives, such as cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, and their diverse biological properties relative to topical application, including anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects. Also, the paper reviews strategies to overcome poor penetration of hemp actives, as well as the integration of hemp actives in cosmeceuticals that provide natural and sustainable alternatives to traditional skincare products offering a range of benefits, including anti-aging, moisturizing, and soothing properties. The review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the development and manufacturing processes of skin products containing hemp actives. By delving into the science behind hemp-based products, the paper provides valuable insights into the potential of hemp as a versatile ingredient in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The utilization of hemp in these innovative products not only offers therapeutic benefits but also promotes natural and sustainable approaches to skincare.

Natural Medicines are significant natural ingredients with medicinal and nutritional effects. The health advantages of these compounds are due to their active components, which include dietary fibres, collagen hydrolysate, carotenoids, Omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids, terpinen-4-ol, Nerolidol and many more. Natural Medicines have been scientifically demonstrated to positively influence cardiovascular and immunological health, as well as to contribute to the avoidance of infections and cancer. Tea tree, Red Ginseng, and Hemp seed are three of the many Natural Medicines which are which possess high medicinal potential especially anti-dandruff potential. In this review paper we will look at Tea tree, Red Ginseng, and Hemp seed and their possible therapeutic benefits, including anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-lipid activity in illness. The numerous applications of these acknowledged techniques and frameworks, their safety for humans, current trends, and the future growth potential of Natural Medicines would also be explored.

Nutricosmetics are nutritional supplements that affect the condition of the skin and its appendages. They are available as ampoules, capsules, or tablets which improve skin elasticity and tone, as well as increase its hydration. Supplements, that prevent excessive hair loss and support the proper growth of nails, are also classified as nutricosmetics. Many supplements contain compounds of plant origin that are rich in active ingredients and exhibit a beneficial effect on the physiology of the skin and its appendages. The aim of this study was to assess the health-promoting effects of selected species of medicinal plants used in nutricosmetics based on the latest literature reports. During the analysis of specific species, the herbal raw material, main biologically active substances, their action, and application were taken into account. Active ingredients are obtained from many parts of plants, including fruits, leaves, and herbs. They are a source of flavonoids, mineral salts, vitamins, and antioxidants of antiaging, and anti-inflammatory properties. The wide use of plant raw materials of popular species and the richness of active ingredients of multidimensional action obtained from them, creates great opportunities for the dietary supplement industry.

Introduction: Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease of the hair follicles causing unpredictable hair loss, occurring in about 2% of the general population throughout their lifetime. AA is associated with other concurrent disorders, such as depression, thyroid diseases, and anxiety. Cannabis receptors (CBRs), especially CB2Rs, are found on immune cells, including lymphocytes, macrophages, mast cells, natural killer (NK) cells, peripheral mononuclear cells, and microglia. We report the case of a girl who reported improvement in AA symptoms following marijuana use. Case presentation: A 15-year-old girl with alopecia universalis and multiple psychiatric diagnoses started self-medicating with cannabis for her symptoms over a year. She reported hair regrowth on her scalp but not anywhere else on the body. Conclusion: Endocannabinoids are a new natural candidate for treating and understanding autoimmunity. There is limited research on the effects of cannabis on AA, and this case report highlights its use as a potential treatment option for autoimmune diseases.

Objectives: The hair follicle is composed of more than 20 kinds of cells, and mesoderm derived dermal papilla cells and keratinocytes cooperatively contribute hair growth via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. We are to investigate β-catenin expression and regulatory mechanism by CBD in alopecia hair tissues and dermal papilla cells. Methods: We performed structural and anatomical analyses on alopecia patients derived hair tissues using microscopes. Pharmacological effect of CBD was evaluated by β-catenin expression using RT-PCR and immunostaining experiment. Results: Morphological deformation and loss of cell numbers in hair shaft were observed in alopecia hair tissues. IHC experiment showed that loss of β-catenin expression was shown in inner shaft of the alopecia hair tissues, indicating that β-catenin expression is a key regulatory function during alopecia progression. Consistently, β-catenin expression was decreased in testosterone or PMA treated dermal papilla cells, suggesting that those treatments are referred as a model on molecular mechanism of alopecia using dermal papilla cells. RT-PCR and immunostaining experiments showed that β-catenin expression was decreased in RNA level, as well as decreased β-catenin protein might be resulted from ubiquitination. However, CBD treatment has no changes in gene expression including β-catenin, but the decreased β-catenin expression by testosterone or PMA was restored by CBD pretreatment, suggesting that potential regulatory effect on alopecia induction of testosterone and PMA. Conclusion: CBD might have a modulating function on alopecia caused by hormonal or excess of signaling pathway, and be a promising application for on alopecia treatment.

Cannabinoids derived from hemp, known as phytocannabinoids, are a group of approximately 120 bioactive compounds found in the Cannabis sativa plant. They have gained increasing attention in recent years, emerging as promising ingredients in the cosmetics industry due to their proven therapeutic and cosmetic benefits for skin and hair. It is worth noting that they do not produce psychoactive effects associated with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This paper summarizes the available published in vitro, in vivo and human studies on cosmetic benefits of cannabinoids for hair and skin. Several of the mechanisms of action of cannabinoids are novel and entirely different from all other cosmetic ingredients because they interact with specific receptors in the hair and skin cells to turn “on” or “off” cellular processes. In addition, there are issues related to the formulation, legal requirements and regulatory considerations associated with incorporating cannabinoids into cosmetics formulations as discussed.

Introduction: The endocannabinoid system (ECS), discovered in the 1990s, is a system involved with maintaining cellular homeostasis by down-regulating the damaging inflammatory responses and upregulating regenerative processes. Cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), and cannabidivarin (CBDV) are all phytocannabinoids found in varying quantities in hemp extract. These three cannabinoids have novel therapeutic effects on hair regrowth through the ECS. The method of action is different from and synergistic with current hair regrowth therapies. The three cannabinoids are fat-soluble and poorly absorbed past the epidermis, but topical application easily reaches hair follicles where they act as partial or full CB1 antagonist and agonist of transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) and vanilloid receptor-4 (TRPV4). All these ECS receptors relate to hair follicle function. Blocking the CB1 receptor on the hair follicle has been shown to result in hair shaft elongation; in addition, the hair follicle cycle (anagen, catagen, and telogen phases) is controlled by TRPV1. The effects of CBD on hair growth are dose dependent and higher doses may result in premature entry into the catagen phase through a different receptor known as TRPV4. CBD has also been shown to increase Wnt signaling, which causes dermal progenitor cells to differentiate into new hair follicles and maintains anagen phase of the hair cycle. Objective: This study was conducted on subjects with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), as follow-up to a prior published study using hemp extract high in CBD without CBDV or THCV. That study showed an average 93.5% increase in hair numbers after 6 months of use. This subsequent study is being done to determine if daily topical application of a hemp-oil high in CBD, THCV, and CBDV concentrations would result in improved hair regrowth in the area of the scalp most affected by AGA. Materials and methods: A case series study was done of 31 (15 men and 16 women, 27 Caucasian, 2 Asian, and 1 mixed race) subjects with AGA. They used a once-daily topical hemp extract formulation, averaging about 33 mg/day for 6 months. A hair count of the greatest area of alopecia was carried out before treatment was started and again after 6 months of treatment. To facilitate consistent hair count analysis, a permanent tattoo was placed at the point for maximum hair loss on the scalp. The subjects were also asked to qualitatively rate their psychosocial perception of "scalp coverage" improvement after the study was completed. The qualitative scale included "very unhappy," "unhappy," "neutral," "happy," and "very happy." The subjects were photographed in a standard manner before and after the study. The photographs were compared for improvements in "scalp coverage" by an independent physician. The qualitative scale included "none," "mild," "moderate," and "extensive" improvement of scalp coverage. Results: The results revealed that all subjects had some regrowth. This ranged from 31.25% (from 16 to 21 hairs) to 2000% (from 1 to 21 hairs). The average increase was statistically significant 246% (15.07 hairs/cm2 increase) in men and 127% (16.06 hairs/cm2) in women. There were no reported adverse effects. All subjects rated their psychosocial perception of the effects of the hair loss, as "happy" or "very happy." Independent review of the photographs revealed evidence of "mild" to "extensive" scalp coverage improvements for all of the subjects. Conclusion: Although the exact mechanism of therapeutic effects is not known, THCV and CBDV are most likely functioning as full CB1 receptor neutral antagonists and CBD is most likely functioning as a partial CB1 receptor antagonist and potentially through Wnt messaging. All three cannabinoids were functioning as TRPV1 agonists. The addition of menthol through the peppermint extract is probably acting through promoting a rapid onset of anagen phase. This topical hemp formulation was superior to oral finasteride, 5% minoxidil once daily foam and CBD topical extract alone. Since this hemp extract works through novel mechanisms entirely different from both finasteride and minoxidil, it can be used in conjunction with these current drugs and would be expected to have synergistic effects. However, safety and efficacy of this combination would be to be evaluated.

Over the last decade the food and cosmetic markets has noticed the major change driven by the health conscious consumer toward clean label products that promotes health benefits. One of the fastest emerging trends in dietary supplements and nutraceutical markets are plant-based proteins and essential fatty acids. The protein found in hemp seed is a complete protein since it contains all nine essential amino acids in sufficient quantities to meet the human body’s needs. Moreover, hemp seed oil is an excellent source of unsaturated fatty acids with optimal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids that reduces the risks for heart attack, cardiovascular problems, atherosclerosis, and certain types of cancer. New opportunities for hemp opened recently around the world with the increased interest in cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive cannabinoid present in its flowers and leaves, and CBD related products. The global cannabidiol market size is expected to reach $55 billion in 2028.

Importance: Little is known about cannabis use among patients with alopecia areata (AA). These patients often experience significant psychosocial burden and may seek alternative therapies beyond that of traditional medical treatments, such as cannabis. Objective: To characterize cannabis use among patients with AA. Design: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from March 9, 2021, to March 22, 2021, using a web-based survey distributed to adult patients with AA using the National AA Foundation's email listserv and social media platforms. Results: 1,087 participants completed the survey (completion rate: 88.1%). Most participants were female (n = 870, 83.3%) and Caucasian (n = 771, 73.8%), with a mean age of 47.6 ± 15.5 years. 65.9% (n = 689) of participants with AA had a history of cannabis use and among those, 51.8% (n = 357) were current cannabis users. The most common reason for cannabis use among current users was for AA-related symptoms (n = 199, 55.7%), with the greatest perceived improvement in symptoms of stress (n = 261, 73.1%) and anxiety, sadness, and depression (n = 234, 65.6%). 80.4% (n = 287) indicated that cannabis had no impact on their hair loss. Conclusion: Cannabis use is common among patients with AA and is often used to alleviate the psychosocial symptoms related to AA, despite the lack of perceived improvement in hair regrowth.
