Marital Satisfaction of The Sandwich Generation in East Java

This study aimed to assess marital satisfaction in the sandwich generation in East Java. It was conducted using quantitative methods based on the theory of Fowers and Olson, who developed the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) Inventory, which consisted of 10 dimensions with 42 items. The sample of this study was early and middle-aged adults from the sandwich generation in East Java. They were selected using the accidental sampling technique. The method of analysis used descriptive statistical techniques. The results showed that the 203 respondents felt very satisfied with their marriage. Nine marriage satisfaction dimensions: Personality Issues, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Financial Management, Leisure Activities, Sexual relationships, Children and Parenting, Family and Friends, and Equalitarian Roles-scored more than the population average, with the Sexual Relationship dimension having the highest empirical mean (22.128) among the marriage satisfaction dimensions. Only one, the Religious Orientation dimension, showed an empirical mean value (5.1970) that was lower than its hypothetical mean (6.000). This indicates that respondents tend to be dissatisfied with their marriage related to religious orientation. Keywords: Marital satisfaction, Sandwich generation, Dual-earner

Age, Education and Economic Status as Predictors of Marital Satisfaction among the Anglican Clergy

The study examined age, education and economic status as predictors of marital ssatisfaction among the Anglican Clergy in Anambra State, Nigeria, with 435 participants sampled through cluster and random sampling methods. The Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMSS), was applied on the study, this scale was developed by Fournier, Olson, & Druckman (1983), and the cross-sectional survey research design and multiple regression analysis statistics was adopted. Age, education and economic status had joint and independent prediction of marital satisfaction with the following P values: Age = .780, Education = .337 and Economic = .904 as against the critical value of P < .05. The joint influence is R = .058a and was contributed to by all the variables. The need for wealth creation or possible subsidiary financial ventures for the clergy and measures to reduce much disparity in age differences between couples in other to increase the level of marital satisfaction is highly recommended.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan kepuasan pernikahan pada pasangan sama etnis dan beda etnis. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah purposive sampling dengan karakteristik a). usia 21 – 40 tahun, b). telah menikah 3 tahun, dan c). memiliki anak minimal usia balita. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 90 orang (45 pasangan sama etnis dan 45 pasangan beda etnis). Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) yang dikemukakan oleh Fowers dan Olson (1989) yang berjumlah 33 aitem. Analisis data menggunakan t-test independent sample dengan hasil nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,688 (p>0,05) yang berarti tidak terdapat perbedaan kepuasan pernikahan antara pasangan yang mengalami pernikahan sama etnis dan beda etnis.

span>Kepuasan pernikahan merupakan penilaian subjektif dari masing-masing individu terhadap mutu ataupun kualitas secara keseluruhan dalam pernikahannya. Kepuasan pernikahan akan berbeda pada pasangan yang sama-sama bekerja dengan pasangan yang hanya suami atau istri saja yang bekerja. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif metode deskriptif. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 30 orang (15 pasangan suami istri). Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah instrumen kepuasan pernikahan dan tergolong ke dalam typical performance test . Data penelitian dianalisis dan dideskripsikan dengan menggunakan rumus persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kepuasan pernikahan pada pasangan suami istri baik pada suami maupun istri sama-sama berada pada kategori tinggi pada seluruh aspek. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian konselor diharapkan dapat memberikan pelayanan konseling sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan kepuasan pernikahan bagi pasangan suami istri yang bekerja melalui layanan informasi, layanan penguasaan konten, layanan konseling perorangan, dan layanan mediasi.</span

Indikator kesejahteraan penduduk tidak hanya diukur berdasarkan moneter, tetapi juga kesejahteraan subjektif atau kebahagiaan. Penelitian mengenai kebahagiaan sudah banyak dilakukan, baik di negara maju maupun berkembang. Namun, belum terdapat penelitian yang membahas tentang tingkat kebahagiaan generasi sandwich. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari perbedaan tingkat kebahagiaan generasi sandwich dan non-generasi sandwich berdasarkan jumlah anggota keluarga yang ditanggung, waktu luang yang dimiliki, kondisi kesehatan, serta jumlah pendapatan rumah tangga per bulan. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data terhadap 2 kelompok: generasi sandwich dan non-generasi sandwich yang terdiri dari 158 responden survei di 4 Provinsi di Indonesia, yaitu Daerah Khusus Ibukota (DKI) Jakarta, Aceh, Jawa Barat, dan Jawa Tengah dan 3 orang informan. Penelitian ini mengombinasikan metode kuantitatif (analisis regresi jalur) dan kualitatif (wawancara mendalam). Temuan dalam penelitian adalah: (1) Tidak terdapat perbedaan tingkat kebahagiaan antara generasi sandwich dan non-generasi sandwich, (2) Variabel yang berpengaruh langsung terhadap kebahagiaan adalah kesehatan dan pendapatan, sedangkan jumlah tanggungan keluarga dan waktu luang tidak berpengaruh langsung, (3) Keberadaan orang tua tidak membuat generasi sandwich merasa terbebani.

Global Perspective on Marital Satisfaction

Across the world, millions of couples get married each year. One of the strongest predictors of whether partners will remain in their relationship is their reported satisfaction. Marital satisfaction is commonly found to be a key predictor of both individual and relational well-being. Despite its importance in predicting relationship longevity, there are relatively few empirical research studies examining predictors of marital satisfaction outside of a Western context. To address this gap in the literature and complete the existing knowledge about global predictors of marital satisfaction, we used an open-access database of self-reported assessments of self-reported marital satisfaction with data from 7178 participants representing 33 different countries. The results showed that sex, age, religiosity, economic status, education, and cultural values were related, to various extents, to marital satisfaction across cultures. However, marriage duration, number of children, and gross domestic product (GDP) were not found to be predictors of marital satisfaction for countries represented in this sample. While 96% of the variance of marital satisfaction was attributed to individual factors, only 4% was associated with countries. Together, the results show that individual differences have a larger influence on marital satisfaction compared to the country of origin. Findings are discussed in terms of the advantages of conducting studies on large cross-cultural samples.

Marital Satisfaction and Satisfaction With Life: Mediating Role of Sexual Satisfaction in Married Women

Background: Marital satisfaction is an integral part of the life of Pakistani women. Married women cannot get satisfied with their lives without marital satisfaction. But previous studies hint at the possible role of sexual satisfaction in addition to marital satisfaction to bring about overall satisfaction with life in married women. Aims: This study was designed with an objective to assess the mediating role of sexual satisfaction in marital satisfaction as a predictor and satisfaction with life as an outcome in married Pakistani women. Previous studies have demonstrated a possible link among marital satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and satisfaction with life. Settings and Design: One hundred married women of childbearing age (18-48 years, M = 29 years) were recruited by a convenient sampling method from the three hospitals of Bahawalpur in the South Punjab state of Pakistan. Methods and Material: Three questionnaires (a) Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale; (b) Index of Sexual Satisfaction, and (c) Satisfaction with Life Scale, were administered to collect the data. Statistical Analysis: The results were analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM, USA), version 25, and Process Macro, version 3.4, and expressed in the form of descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, and frequencies), mediation analysis, analysis of co-variance, analysis of variance and t test. Results and Conclusion: The unstandardized indirect effects yielded a significant mediation (IE = 0.4757, SE = 0.1786, P < .05, LL = 0.1736, UL = 0.8681). The sexual satisfaction fully mediated the relationship between marital satisfaction and satisfaction with life in married women. It was concluded that married women cannot get marital satisfaction and satisfaction with life without a satisfied sexual life.

The Relationship of Religiosity and Marital Satisfaction: The Role of Religious Commitment and Practices on Marital Satisfaction Among Pakistani Respondents

The sociology of religion focuses on an individual’s social and married life. This research performed the first focalized examination of the influence of spirituality and religiosity on the marital satisfaction of Pakistani Muslim couples and how religious commitment and religious practice strengthens the relationship of married couples. This study incorporates the Kansas Marital Satisfaction scale (KMSS), the Religious Commitment Inventory (RCI-10) and the Religious Practice scale to measure marital satisfaction. Survey questionnaires, including a survey invitation letter and an informed consent form, were sent to married couples residing in five urban areas of Pakistan. The sample consisted of 508 valid responses, 254 males and 254 females, exploring the respondent’s perception of their marital satisfaction. The data received were screened and tested through SPSS version 25. The first step of the data analysis was to examine the impact of religiosity variables (religious commitment, religious practice) on marital satisfaction. Findings indicated that religious commitment and religious practice are vital for a happy married life. The findings help explain the social dynamics of marital satisfaction in Pakistani culture. The results also indicated that religious commitment and religious practice strengthened and promoted marital satisfaction. This study is novel in the context of Pakistani culture and conclusions cannot be generalized to the whole population. Other religious factors may provide further research directions. The results of this study may help practitioners and decision-makers focusing on marital satisfaction issues.

Kepuasan pernikahan menjadi salah satu faktor terpenting untuk mencapai keluarga yang bahagia. Vacation Travel, Marital Satisfaction, and Subjective Wellbeing: A Chinese Perspective

Marital satisfaction is important for preserving one’s marriage and overall wellbeing. While the need to identify factors that enhance marital satisfaction is evident, contributions from the field of tourism remain scarce. This study examines several linkages between and among vacation travel, marital satisfaction, and subjective wellbeing through a thematic analysis of textual data from 22 semi-structured interviews. The results reveal that vacation travel enhances marital satisfaction and improves individuals’ subjective wellbeing. The study has identified four drivers for enhanced marital satisfaction, including Mutual Devotion, Reignited Passion, Strengthened Bond, and Open Communication. These drivers are manifested through various benefits of vacation travel, some of which also underlie the three outcomes of individual subjective wellbeing that emerged from the data. These outcomes are Social Support, Self-esteem, and Happiness. This study contributes to the knowledge on the role of vacation travel in enhancing marital relationship for Chinese couples in a society characterized by the convergence of Chinese traditions and Western values. As the evolving patterns of global mobility continue to intensify cultural interactions, the findings also shed light on the relationships between and among vacation travel, marital satisfaction, and subjective wellbeing beyond the Chinese population.
