Introduction
At the same time as the rapid growth of technology and the ever-increasing
human progress, and considering that the roles and responsibilities of
adulthood have expanded and become more complex and teenagers need
advanced abilities and skills to enter adulthood, emerging adulthood theory
has been proposed to explain these social and economic developments of the
late 20th century. One of the main features of this developmental period is
the nature of discovery, experimentation and gaining experience. It is a
period in which people focus on personal growth and develop the qualities
necessary for self-sufficiency, accept new roles and responsibilities, and
learn the social skills necessary to assume those roles. Due to the difficulties
of this developmental period, qualities such as agency should be considered
an important psychological resource. Also, perfectionism, as a tendency to
set very high standards in performance along with extreme self-evaluation
critically, can be harmful in the path of self-sufficiency and achieving goals,
especially in this developmental period. On the other hand, since emerging
adulthood is associated with exploration, stress, ambiguity, and the lack of a
specific role, one's emotions also fluctuate during this period. In this regard,
and considering the features of the emerging adulthood period and the
importance of the structures mentioned in this period, increasing the
capabilities of people and helping them to successfully transition to
adulthood is of particular importance. In the meantime, education based on
the logotherapy approach is one of the types of education that can affect a
wide range of lives. Therefore, the main goal of the research is to investigate
the effectiveness of education based on the logotherapy approach on the

sense of agency, positive affect, and perfectionism in emerging adults.
Method
It was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest, post-test, control group,
and two-month follow-up period design. The statistical population included
all undergraduate students of Isfahan University in the academic year 2020-
2021, of which 30 people were selected by the available sampling method
and randomly assigned to two experimental (15 people) and control (15
people) groups. The data collection tools included the human agency scale
(consisting of three components of purposefulness, futurism, and general
self-efficacy), Hewitt and Flett's perfectionism questionnaire (1991) and
Watson et al.'s positive affect scale (1988). The people in the experimental
group were trained based on the logotherapy approach (Hutzel, 2002) during
10- to 60-minute sessions. Data analysis was also performed using the
method of analysis of variance with repeated measurements.
Results
The obtained results showed that the average scores of the feeling of
agency and positive affect in the experimental group compared to the control
group increased significantly in the post-test stage, and the average scores of
perfectionism decreased significantly (P≤0.01). Also, the results indicated
the permanence of the training effect for the constructs of a sense of agency
and perfectionism over time.
Discussion
The results of this research showed that education about discovering
meaning in life can affect different aspects of life, including the sense of
agency, perfectionism, and positive emotions. Using the results of this
research, effective measures can be taken regarding the development of
different skills in teenagers and especially emerging adults.

Therefore, the present study was to probe the effectiveness of group logo therapy on self-belief and feelings of worthlessness in the elderly with type II diabetes. The research method was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest and control group design. The statistical population included all the elderly with type II diabetes in Qazvin. Stratified sampling method was performed on all eligible individuals in the statistical population. The research tools were Azadi's self-belief questionnaires and Schwartz's value scale. Having completed the questionnaires, 80 people with the lowest score in each component (46 females and 34 males) were randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups (23 women and 17 men in each group). The experimental group exposed to eight 90-minute Victor Frankel Logo therapy sessions. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) statistical method in SPSS-22 software. The results of indicated that experimental intervention was effective on increasing self-belief and reducing the feelings of worthlessness in the elderly with type II diabetes (P<0.05). The results also showed that gender factor is effective on increasing the effectiveness of group Logo therapy on increasing the self-belief in the elderly with type II diabetes but not on the effectiveness of group Logo therapy on reducing the sense of worthlessness in the elderly with type II diabetes. It is recommended to use a group Logo therapy program to increase self-belief and reduce the feelings of worthlessness in the elderly with type II diabetes.

Background Several intergovernmental organizations, including the World Health Organization and United Nations, are urging countries to use well-being indicators for policymaking. This trend, coupled with increasing recognition that positive affect is beneficial for health/well-being, opens new avenues for intervening on positive affect to improve outcomes. However, it remains unclear if positive affect in adolescence shapes health/well-being in adulthood. We examined if increases in positive affect during adolescence were associated with better health/well-being in adulthood across 41 outcomes. Methods and findings We conducted a longitudinal cohort study using data from Add Health—a prospective and nationally representative cohort of community-dwelling U.S. adolescents. Using regression models, we evaluated if increases in positive affect over 1 year (between Wave I; 1994 to 1995 and Wave II; 1995 to 1996) were associated with better health/well-being 11.37 years later (in Wave IV; 2008; N = 11,040) or 20.64 years later (in Wave V; 2016 to 2018; N = 9,003). Participants were aged 15.28 years at study onset, and aged 28.17 or 37.20 years—during the final assessment. Participants with the highest (versus lowest) positive affect had better outcomes on 3 (of 13) physical health outcomes (e.g., higher cognition (β = 0·12, 95% CI = 0·05, 0·19, p = 0.002)), 3 (of 9) health behavior outcomes (e.g., lower physical inactivity (RR = 0·80, CI = 0·66, 0·98, p = 0.029)), 6 (of 7) mental health outcomes (e.g., lower anxiety (RR = 0·81, CI = 0·71, 0·93, p = 0.003)), 2 (of 3) psychological well-being (e.g., higher optimism (β = 0·20, 95% CI = 0·12, 0·28, p < 0.001)), 4 (of 7) social outcomes (e.g., lower loneliness (β = −0·09, 95% CI = −0·16, −0·02, p = 0.015)), and 1 (of 2) civic/prosocial outcomes (e.g., more voting (RR = 1·25, 95% CI = 1·16, 1·36, p < 0.001)). Study limitations include potential unmeasured confounding and reverse causality. Conclusions Enhanced positive affect during adolescence is linked with a range of improved health/well-being outcomes in adulthood. These findings suggest the promise of testing scalable positive affect interventions and policies to more definitively assess their impact on outcomes.

Transition from adolescence to adulthood and the challenges it entails are often accompanied by a feeling of anxiety and confusion. As research has shown, emerging adults may be particularly vulnerable to various mental disorders. Meaning in life is one of the protective factors that is of great importance both for the mental health and well-being of an individual. The issue of the sense of meaning in life is particularly important in emerging adulthood, as searching for meaning in life may be treated as one of the developmental tasks of this period. The aim of the article is both to review the literature on meaning in life, with particular emphasis on its two dimensions: presence of and search for, and to present the preliminary results of research. The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between the sense of meaning in life, perceived stress and mental health among emerging adults in Poland. 120 emerging adults (between 18 and 29 years of age) participated in the study. Participants completed three questionnaires: the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ), the General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). There was a negative relationship between presence of meaning in life and somatic and depressive symptoms and perceived stress. Among emerging adults, the search for meaning in life was significantly higher than the presence of meaning. The role of the search for meaning in the period of emerging adulthood as well as further research directions are discussed.

This study focuses on emerging adults’ personal agency, an individual feature associated with enhanced adaptive and resilient developmental trajectories. The two objectives were to explore the role of demographic, psychosocial risk, and relational factors in predicting personal agency and analyze whether romantic attachment mediates the connection between parental attachment and personal agency. The sample consisted of 607 Portuguese emerging adults aged between 18 and 30 years. Structural equation modeling results suggest that men are more likely to exhibit higher levels of personal agency than women. Trustful romantic relations and good paternal emotional bonds are associated with greater personal agency, while dependent romantic relations and maternal relations, characterized by inhibition of exploration, are associated with lower personal agency. Moreover, in romantic relations, trust, unlike dependence, partially mediates the association between parental attachment and personal agency. These findings are discussed based on attachment and self-determination theories, considering the importance of secure relationships for agency and autonomy in personal actions. This study provides important evidence for the influencers and mediators of personal agency, contributing to a better understanding of this individual capacity.

Poor mental wellbeing not only affects an individual and their family, but it also affects the workplace and the society as a whole. Consequently, it is crucial to investigate approaches that can promote a positive mindset in order to enhance wellbeing. This study aimed to explore the association between gratitude, wellbeing, spirituality, and experiencing meaningful work. A sample of 197 participants (69.5% female) completed measures of gratitude, experiencing meaningful work, spirituality, and several wellbeing indices. Gratitude was significantly positively associated with happiness, life satisfaction, flourishing, positive affect, spirituality, and experiencing meaningful work. A mediation analysis revealed that the relationship between wellbeing and experiencing meaningful work was partially mediated by gratitude. Additionally, spirituality did not moderate the relationship between gratitude and experiencing meaningful work. Overall, the findings indicate that fostering a grateful mindset could enhance wellbeing and work engagement, which in turn could lead to the experience of meaningful work.

The current study examined the associations among dimensions of perfectionism, facets of stress reactivity, and self-reported depressive symptoms in 191 university students. Participants completed the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, the Perfectionism Cognitions Inventory, the Perceived Stress Reactivity Scale (PSRS), and a measure of depressive symptoms. The PSRS is a relatively new instrument that measures several distinguishable facets of stress reactivity including prolonged stress reactivity, reactivity to failure, and reactivity to social evaluation. Analyses confirmed that most of the perfectionism measures were associated with stress reactivity to failure experiences. Socially prescribed perfectionism and perfectionistic automatic thoughts were also associated with prolonged stress reactivity and reactivity to social evaluation. Moreover, all facets of stress reactivity were correlated with depressive symptoms. Finally, prolonged stress reactivity and reactivity to social evaluation mediated the links between perfectionism dimensions and depressive symptoms. The current findings provide general support for models of perfectionism and stress, and suggest that perfectionists have heightened sensitivities to stressors related to their self-definitions that are activated when threatening stressors involving these themes are experienced.

Identifying antecedents to meaning in life has been a long-standing interest among researchers. Based on the Self-Determination Theory (SDT), this study examined the independent and additive functions of two individual characteristics (perfectionism, self-compassion) in predicting meaning in life. With 245 diverse community adults, we first tested whether perfectionism dimensions and self-compassion independently predicted meaning in life. Then, the moderating effect of self-compassion in the association between perfectionism and meaning in life was tested. Results found that two dimensions of perfectionism predicted meaning in life, with perfectionistic strivings positively predicting meaning in life whereas perfectionistic concerns negatively predicting meaning in life. Self-compassion also facilitated experiences of meaning in life, indicating that having a healthy attitude toward oneself promotes meaning in life. However, there was no evidence of self-compassion moderating the association between perfectionism and meaning in life. Findings suggest that perfectionistic strivings is adaptive and perfectionistic concerns is maladaptive in experiencing meaning in life, consistent with the literature on perfectionism’s relation to well-being. Self-compassion facilitated meaning in life but infusing self-compassion into interventions to further promote meaning in life among perfectionists may not prove fruitful. Limitations and future directions are discussed.

Students’ connectedness to various social agents has been linked to specific domains of self-efficacy but little is known about the mechanisms linking connectedness to adaptive student outcomes. This research aimed to examine the association of connectedness academic self-efficacy (Study 1) and career development self-efficacy (Study 2) via the mediating effects of gratitude using prospective research design among Hong Kong high school students. Sample comprised 141 high school students in Study 1 and 132 high school students in Study. There was 12-month interval between Time 1 and Time 2 survey administration. Study 1 showed that Time 1 connectedness to parents and peers positively predicted Time 2 academic self-efficacy through the mediating role of Time 2 gratitude. Study 2 demonstrated that Time 1 connectedness to parents and school positively predicted Time 2 career development self-efficacy via Time 2 gratitude. Converging evidence was reached on the mediating influence of gratitude on the link between connectedness and different domains of self-efficacy. Teachers, guidance counselors and psychologists are encouraged to provide increased opportunities for students to strengthen their peer relationships and connection with families in order to boost their self-confidence in areas of academic and career development. In adult life, people normally know what they are doing. This experience of controlling one's own actions and, through them, the course of events in the outside world is called 'sense of agency'. It forms a central feature of human experience; however, the brain mechanisms that produce the sense of agency have only recently begun to be investigated systematically. This recent progress has been driven by the development of better measures of the experience of agency, improved design of cognitive and behavioural experiments, and a growing understanding of the brain circuits that generate this distinctive but elusive experience. The sense of agency is a mental and neural state of cardinal importance in human civilization, because it is frequently altered in psychopathology and because it underpins the concept of responsibility in human societies.
