Nurturing Gifted and Talented Students in Algerian Schools:
Diagnosing Problems and Proposing Remedial Approaches
Abstract
This paper aims to diagnose the main problems faced by gifted and talented
students in Algerian schools and propose innovative remedial approaches to
address these challenges. The study is based on a comprehensive review of
local and global literature, focusing on the Algerian context. The main findings
identify four key issues: difficulties in identification and diagnosis, inadequate
curricula, psychological and social pressures, and lack of family and community
support. The paper proposes remedial approaches including developing a
comprehensive system for identification and diagnosis, adapting curricula and
teaching methods, providing psychological and social support, and enhancing
partnerships between schools, families, and the community. The proposed
solutions take into account the cultural and social specificities of Algerian
society while drawing on successful international experiences. The paper
concludes with recommendations for implementing these approaches and
emphasizes the need for collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to ensure
the effective nurturing of gifted and talented students in Algeria
