Resisting the Canon: EFL student teachers' creative writing stories
Abstract
This books is the result of a creative writing project in which we expected to offer ESL student teachers the possibility of perceiving literature as a means to express their ideas, beliefs, emotions and even their discontent. Our initial goal was to question the conservative discourse displayed by some English language teachers and literacy critics who seek to preserve certain modes of thought and writing as long as these resemble a "literary canon". We see literature as a way to express our daily and social issues, as a way to ratify our voicing, and to allow ourselves to use our voices as we deem needed, not as it is expected from us to do.
