In 2019, several emerging markets' urban areas, known as 'trigger cities,' generated substantial streaming numbers on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. Jakarta, a leading trigger city, plays a pivotal role in Indonesia's digital music evolution, where consumers actively discover new Western artists. The city's dense population significantly contributes to these artists' global success. This study examines how music streaming is assimilated in Jakarta, employing an acculturation in situ approach to understand industry decision-makers' perceptions of local cultural consumption. Through qualitative interviews with local representatives of international digital music companies, the analysis highlights Indonesian consumers' music tastes and streaming behaviors that drive global music streaming services' content marketing, enabling greater exploration of music in Indonesia.
