(HINDU) FOREST CHAPLAINCY: NATURAL BURIALS AND DEATH RITUALS

Abstract

As more attention is being placed within chaplaincy, witnessing ethical issues related to spiritual care and emotional support during bereavement and personal choice-making (at end-of-life) may be more readily explored and accounted for courageously upon regarding hospice. Thus, chaplains across the world can diligently work together to demonstrate commitment to service, justice and compassion, empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities. Furthermore, professional care providers with emotional boundaries and intelligence can network together vis-á-vis the intricacies of complex relationships and postmortem care. While residing in a rural area, my vocational and ministerial goals are orientated around performing rituals within forests. My primary objective as a forest chaplain is to encourage individuals within the community to have more personal time and space, to realize one’s own true nature, as well as cultivate safety and security for connection—upon the many life transitions, including the final journey. Therefore, my main academic goal is to offer a scope into forest chaplaincy for fellow chaplains as well as encourage personal spirituality for individuals residing in the forest.
