Abstract

This chapter aims to discuss the importance of building resilience and promoting wellbeing among college students. The objectives include highlighting the relationship between resilience and wellbeing, exploring the impact of stress and burnout on college students, identifying strategies to promote resilience and the influence of social support networks on resilience, addressing challenges to resilience through intervention programs, and emphasizing the ongoing need for support and resources to promote resilience and wellbeing. The concept of resilience and wellbeing are crucial for academic success and overall wellbeing in college students, who face various challenges that can negatively impact their resilience and wellbeing. Stress and burnout can adversely affect academic performance, mental health, and wellbeing. Hence, building resilience is crucial to promote the overall wellbeing of college students. With appropriate strategies and support systems, college students can develop the resilience needed to overcome challenges and succeed academically and in life. Preface
Positive psychology is a dynamic sub discipline of psychology with ongoing research
exploring various aspects of human well-being, flourishing, and resilience. This alters the
attention from merely treating psychological problems to enhancing positive aspects of
individuals. Incorporating positive aspects such as happiness, fulfilment, and life satisfaction
in study frame, Positive Psychology offers insights into how individuals can achieve more
meaningful, happy and fulfilling lives. We have vast western literature and studies on it.
Though there is a dearth of empirical studies looking to Indian contexts. Understanding
constructs and concepts of positive psychology in Indian context can be helpful in designing
and developing models, plans and interventions programs. Hence, it is the need of the hours
to explore the nature and practices of positive psychology in indigenous contexts. The
objective of the edited book was to present a collection of indigenous researches focusing
towards new models and practices in field of positive psychology. Indigenous frameworks,
perspectives augment positive psychology by emphasizing social and culturally pertinent,
holistic, strengths-based and community-centred ideas to well-being. So, research focused
towards indigenous perspectives in any discipline becomes more inclusive, respectful of
diversity, and well equipped to report the multifaceted needs of diverse populations.
We received paper incorporating indigenous approach from various scholars across the
country pertaining to different subthemes such as forgiveness, compassion, spirituality,
gratitude, role of culture in shaping positivity, psychological capital, well-being etc. Authors
have tried to reveal the psychological processes, traits, human agency and environmental
factors which contribute to well-being, meaning and fulfilment. Through empirical studies
and reviews, they have identified the key aspects of fruitful and productive human-life, thus
contributing to a profound understanding of human flourishing.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to contributors of this book for their invaluable
contribution. Their expertise, insights, and dedication have significantly enriched the content
and depth of our publication. Each and every chapter of the book exemplifies the good
standards of scholarship and greatly enhances the overall quality of the book. Their

ABOUT THE EDITORS
Shailendra Kumar Sharma has over 14 years of experience in the realms of teaching, training, and research. Presently, he
works as Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at Government Model Degree College, Saharanpur (UP).
Prior to his current institution, he dedicated approximately seven years to Sri Aurobindo College (Evening), University of
Delhi. Dr. Sharma pursued his post-graduation at the University of Allahabad and later earned his Ph.D. in Psychology
from GKV, Uttrakhand. His professional portfolio includes the successful implementation of projects sponsored by DST,
Govt. of India, as well as GIZ KAEFER Germany, NABARD, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (GOI), SIDBI etc. Dr. Shar-
ma's scholarly contributions extend to over eighteen research papers published in esteemed National /International Jour-
nals & Books. He has conducted numerous training programs and workshops tailored for employees of prominent indus-
tries such as Larsen & Toubro, BHEL, SBI, Jan Sikshan Sansthan Govt. of India etc. focusing on behavioral modules.
Shailendra Sharma has developed e-content for esteemed institutions like IGNOU, SWAYAM Portal Government of In-
dia and BOSSE Sikkim. Dr. Sharma has rendered his services being an expert to organizations like CSTT, Govt. of India,
NIEPVD and UP Government. Notably, he has spearheaded Participatory Rural Appraisal Studies across various regions
including Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
KC Barmola has done Master’s and Ph.D. in Psychology from Gurukul Kangri University Haridwar, Uttarakhand. Cur-
rently, he works as an Associate Professor in the department of Psychology in SRM University Sonepat Haryana. He has
around more than eleven years experience of teaching and research in the field of Psychology. His area of interest has
been Guidance and Counselling, Indian Psychology and Spirituality. He has been appreciated as one of the best research-
ers in Amity University Rajasthan in 2014. He has got more than three dozen of research papers, articles, and chapter in
edited book in his basket of research profile which is published in reputed national and international journals and books.
He has also presented more than two dozen research papers in various national and international conferences. Recently,
he has got published an edited book on Stress and Wellbeing in Life.
