This book title Foundation Mathematics with Business Math for Tertiary Institutions is to help students develop their conceptual and manipulative skills and it application in problem solving. it has nineteen chapters, twelve chapters of the book are collection of topics from algebra and engineering mathematics with extended explanation and application for first year students to build their skills as the name of the book implies. These topics were also taught in their secondary school level. Based on the extensive survey on the curriculum, the authors deem it necessary to include elementary trigonometry and complex numbers which launch the students into angles and trigonometric ratios. Chapter 12 provides a foundation in mathematics which elucidates the concepts of mass, force, centre of gravity, motion, relative’s velocity, Newton’s law of motion, rate of change and so on. Chapter 13 and 14 cover the introduction of probability, and matrices and determinants while Chapter 19 covered set theory. Finally, Chapters 15 to 18 present business mathematics which covers the following topics such as fraction, ratio, proportion, rate, speed, percentage and percentage error, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, money, bills, tax and exchange rates respectively. This book will be very useful for researchers, students of mathematics and mathematics related courses or discipline in professional courses, Colleges, Polytechnics and Universities which require mathematics foundation.

The survey discovered that the course would be supported by updating, extending, and focusing on worked examples and series of exercises (pragmatic learning) to emphasize learning outcomes. The book is in black and white so that students can learn from the book itself. It contains numerous examples with step-wise explanations. The aim of Foundation Mathematics is to help students to develop their conceptual and manipulative skills and their application in problem-solving. The first ten chapters of this book is a collection of topics from algebra with extended explanation and application for first-year students to build their skills as the name of the book implies. These topics were also taught at their secondary school level. Based on the extensive survey of the curriculum, the author deems it necessary to include elementary trigonometry which launches the students into angles and trigonometric ratios. Chapter 12 provides a foundation in mechanics that elucidates the concepts of mass, forces, center of gravity, motion, relative velocity, Newton’s law of motion, rate of change, and so on. Finally, chapter 13 presents statistics and probability. This shows cases of measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, and measures of association, correlation, regression, and so on. Mathematical Model of Cellular Injury

This study revealed that ischemia and hypoxia are the forms of stress present in soft tissue cells that can lead to cellular injury. The study also explained that cellular injuries exhibit viscoelastic properties in the body of the living organisms as cells are damaged. The analytic solution showed that the magnitude of ischemia and hypoxia that led to cellular injury was kN 270 and the time ... [Show full abstract] taken for the dead cells to escalate was three months and one week. The solution showed that the environmental factor that affected the cellular injury that led to escalation of dead cells to cellular injury was temperature given as  between 0 0 100 80  c. The model result also showcased that the amplitude of the hypoxia in the cell damage that led to cellular injury was kN 2300 and the time taken to enlarge was three months. Finally, the solution to the model ascertained that it took between two-three months for ischemia and hypoxia to act on a tissue cell before it ruptures and become cellular injury. All these results were determined from the graphs when plotted the parameter values given in the discussion of results. Finally, the analytic solution of the study illustrates that dead cells exist right in the rock-solid form as a result of oxidative stress (ischemia and hypoxia) losing its bonding power. The study explicate that the model equations were found in the flesh existing in a local syndrome called ''Orolla''. The system showed significant effect and was found to be stable with escalating dead cells in living organism.

The study examined the training needs required by Business Education lecturers for effective instructional delivery in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population consists of 104 business education lecturers in Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of ... [Show full abstract] Education. The purposive sampling technique was adopted for the study as the entire population was used as a sample size. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts. Cronbach Alpha reliability procedure was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded a reliability coefficient index of 0.87 respectively. Data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation for answering the research questions and t-test for testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the study revealed that Business Education Lecturers need training in computer application skills and pedagogic skills for effective instructional delivery in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The study also revealed that there was no significant difference in the mean responses of business education lecturers in Rivers State University and business education lecturers in Ignatius Ajuru University of Education for effective instructional delivery in tertiary institutions in Rivers State. The study recommended among others that the computer application skills and pedagogic skills identified be used to improve the Business Education lecturers for effective instructional delivery in tertiary institutions in Rivers State.
