A new record of the genus Scoliokona Kallies & Arita, 1998 (Lepidoptera, Sesiidae) from China

Scoliokona kalliesi Arita & Riefenstahl, 2004 is reported from Yunnan, southwestern China, for the first time. Illustrations of the adult and male genitalia are provided.

Abstract Scoliokona kalliesi Arita & Riefenstahl, 2004 is reported from Yunnan, south-western China,


Scoliokona is a small genus within the tribe Paranthrenini of the subfamily Sesiinae (Pühringer &
Kallies, 2004 ). Kallies & Arita (1998) established this genus based on two species: S. tetrapora
S. heptapora Kallies & Arita,1998. At present, the genus includes 11 species,
with 3 species recorded in China (S. nanlingensis Kallies & Arita, 2014, S. shimentai Kallies & Wu,
2014 and S. spissa Kallies & Arita, 2014). The species of Scoliokona are distributed throughout
       
Gorbunov, 2003; Kallies et al., 2014; Yata et al., 2017). Here we report the forth Chinese species of
this genus, Scoliokona kalliesi Arita & Riefenstahl, 2004 from Baoshan, Yunnan, China. This species
was originally described from Myanmar and Thailand (Arita & Riefenstahl, 2004). Recently, it was
recorded from Vietnam (Yata et al., 2017).

palps and patagia are orange; hindwings with variable transparent areas) and the male genitalia

Bionomics and habitat. Unknown. This species was collected at the edge of a village at an altitude of
1020 m .
Distribution. Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, China (Yunnan).
