Gibraltar, called also “the Rock”, belongs to the United Kingdom since 1704 (or formally since 1713) what is colonial anachronism from Spanish point of view. Military plans (in 1727, 1779-1783, 1941) and diplomatic actions (in 1950’s and 1960’s) for incorporating this area back to Spain conjured up only consolidation of British position in result which expression was Gibraltar Constitution Order
... [Show full abstract] 1969. Spanish blockade of “the Rock” between 1969 and 1984 and warlike declarations in 1980’s made British Government quite inflexible in “Gibraltar affair”. The situation changed during Blair-Aznar co-operation in early 2000’s when even ideas of British-Spanish condominium were seriously disputed. But finally Queen Elizabeth the Second have signed new Gibraltar Constitution Order which have made connections of this territory with the United Kingdom stronger and more stable. Despite of great dissatisfaction of Spaniards “the Rock” have stayed under British rules. However the most important effect of 300 years of Spanish pressure for British Government have been process of progressive widening of Gibraltar’s autonomy not offing by its habitants but received only as an British answer for Spanish proposals.
