Contested Ground is an open-access research project that
documents and analyses events in military, humanitarian and
international aairs using publicly available satellite imagery.

Methodology: Contested Ground applies remote-sensing methods to
identify, analyse and present events observed in satellite imagery.
Change detection analysis is undertaken using a series of scenes, where
available. Images are subject to detailed comparison and object
identication to determine the absence, presence or uctuations in the
size/number of people, vehicles, structures and phenomena.
Observations highlighted in pictorial and written analysis are not an
exhaustive account of spatio-temporal changes and/or visible objects, but
serve as illustrative of broader trends or are otherwise noteworthy.
Source: All satellite imagery is from Google Earth and has been
attributed according to Google Usage Terms. Commercial imagery may
provide higher resolutions and with greater time-series delity.
