Urban areas, which have been in constant change and transformation depending on social dynamics since the first existence of the city phenomenon until today, are the common point of the fields of cinema and architecture. In this promotion, which is made with the help of important image elements of a city, urban elements also give important clues about the period in which the film was shot, the social-cultural characteristics of the period, and how urban spaces were used. Therefore, cinemas are a tool that plays an important role in the promotion of cities. The fact that cities are visible through artistic themes in cinema causes them to be identified with various artistic elements in films. One of the most important cities affected by
this process and the reflections of change is Istanbul, and the city has been hosting cinema since the beginning of the history of cinema, as an indicator of the natural backdrop and social transformations in Turkish Cinema. Istanbul, which can be described as a mirror held up to society throughout the periods of cinema since the 1900s, has played an important role in the field of cinema in every period of history. In the study, the silhouette created by the urbanization and planning process in the space is discussed by reading the reflections of the city of Istanbul in cinemas from the past to the present. By presenting sections from the films, the change in the city of Istanbul has been revealed in line with the purpose of the study. Istanbul, as an important
indicator of social transformations, has appeared in cinemas since the 1960s until today especially as the natural backdrop of Cinema History. It has been determined that the way the city, which can be described as a mirror held up to social life throughout the historical process, has changed over time in cinemas. While in the films shot in the 1960s and 1980s, Istanbul was mostly used as a background, and a city skyline with few buildings was seen, in the 1990s and 2000s, the city was now reflected as the main place where events took place. As a reflection of urbanization and other developments, it has been concluded that high-rise buildings represent an important part of the city skyline.
