ABSTRACT
Praise and oiling are not identical. There is gulf of difference between these two tools. The
languages of these two tools are identical. The style and contents are quite enchanting. A lay
person cannot differentiate between these two approaches. Only a wise can realize the motive of
the concerned person. True praise is without return. True oiling is with return. Both are
diagonally opposite regarding their outcome. Thus oiling is mundane and praise is divine.
KEYWORDS: Praise, approval, admiration, favour, commend, recommend, respect, gratitude,
glorify
INTRODUCTION
Creative writing is based more on manifestation rather than on expression. It does not inform,
rather it reveals. So it bears no reference. The best creative writing is critical, and the best critical
writing is creative. This article is an outcome of thinking about creative writing meant for a
general readership. As such, I have adopted a free style methodology so that everyone can enjoy
the pleasure of reading. As you might know, Francis Bacon (1561-1626), the immortal essayist,
wrote many essays namely ‘Of Love’, ‘Of Friendship’, ‘Of Ambition’, ‘Of Studies’, and so on.
The multiple-minded genius correctly pointed out that all the words of the dictionary can be used
as themes for essays. But little has been done since his death to continue or finish his
monumental task. Bacon's unique individual style of presentation ignited my imagination and
encouraged me to write creative essays as a method of relieving a wide range of emotions
through catharsis.
ARTICLE
Praise is the expression of approval or admiration for someone or something. For example: The
audience was full of praise for the whole production.
It is to express a favorable judgment of. It is to commend. It is to recommend.
It is the expression of respect and gratitude as an act of worship. For example: Give praise to
God.
It is to glorify, a god or saint, especially by the attribution of perfections
All cannot praise. Most of the persons suffer from envy. A judicious person always praises
someone for his good performance. He highlights the novelty of such outcome. The learned
praises an evil soul or an opponent one even. That’s why he is learned. Here lies the essence of
his praiseworthiness.
The net result is that due to praise the evil soul becomes good and the opponent becomes near
and dear one. It is really an art. It proves the solvency of the elite mind.
To do a good work needs stamina and to recognize or appreciate requires greater stamina. If
praise is a blessing then envy is a curse.
Praise is too good to inspire someone. A single line of praise acts as vocal tonic. It is as if
synergy. Sometimes it is more powerful than money. Money has limitation. It cannot be used
everywhere. It cannot purchase all and everything. Praise acts as a healing balm to the bruised
heart. In contrast, it is too bad if it is used for oiling purpose thus to serve and satisfy illegal gain.
A shrewd person uses praise as a tool for personal gain. He uses it less misuses it more.
Sometimes he praises someone. Sometimes he praises not. He praises if he gains. He praises not
if he gains not. Sometimes he keeps mum and praises not if he realizes that silence is more
profitable than being eloquent callously in a particular moment. His mood and motive are
gloriously so uncertain. In fact profit is his single agenda. Thus he earns tactfully both praising,
not praising and keeping mum as well. He is so sly.
Someone works without any oiling. He discharges his duty sincerely. Someone becomes active
being oiled or taking cash or kind or both simultaneously. Generally, a shrewd person is always
so kind that he accepts only cash. The paradox is that he is kind and avoids kind simultaneously.
There is a good relation between praise and pride. Praise ignites pride. A fool becomes proud
seldom a wise. The wise knows, “Pride goes before a fall”. The learned tries to find the factors to
be praiseworthy. He tries to maintain it. The learned knows it is difficult to be eminent and
simultaneously it is more difficult to hold it for long. He knows better that temporary gain is not
gain at all. Rather it is detrimental. It allures and diverts a novice soul.
Praise is alias and akin to recognition. Right time recognition helps someone to prosper. Most of
the time recognition reaches late. Then it comes of no use at all. It is simply wastage of energy
only for the sender. In case of receiver it is quite value less.
Sometimes recognition reaches after death. There are numerous examples of such late arrival of
praise. The public organizations suffer from such ill fame. The private ventures are free from
such allegation. They prize the fit person and punish an unfit employee through hire and fire
policy. Thus they value survival of the fittest policy.
To overcome this real life problem PPP i.e., Public-Private Partnership model has been
introduced. In some cases this PPP model works well. In some cases its outcome is not
satisfactory at all. Government is interested in PPP model just to be free from ill-fame. In some
cases PPP model has been converted into purely private in nature for benefit of both public and
government as well.
This problem highlights the status of the nation regarding its human resource. Human resource is
very important. If it is good then it becomes asset. If it is bad then it becomes liability. As such
good primary education creates good students who later on become great students.
Different people praise differently. Man praises. He has to praise. He is bound to praise. Thus
man, willy-nilly, praises infinites times from cradle to coffin. In this regard he has nothing to do
except praising.
Similarly man receives praise. Obviously a lucky person receives praises. An unlucky person
seldom gets it. The paradox is that a genuine person does not get his due praise. In contrast a less
talented person gets it. Sometimes a stranger gets it doing nothing.
Thus the whole population may broadly be classified into four different categories basing on the
approach of praise.
The first type praises for instant return. Such a person is cunning. He always moves with evil
intention. Profit is his single agenda. He uses praise as a tool to realize his ambition. If sweet
words fail then he uses force. He wants to reach his goal by hook or by crook i.e., by any means
either fair or foul. He oils for personal gain. After serving his purpose he avoids the concerned
person. He adopts use and throw policy. He can create distance. He can minimize distance too by
his innovative mechanism quite unique in nature. He fixes strategy as per situation that fits well.
Like liquid he can readily adopt the shape of the container. He is so creative genius. In fact he is
very cautious regarding the profit and loss account of hard reality.
The second type praises for future return. They are judicious. They can foresee the future of the
concerned person. A lay man cannot realise such investment. Everybody considers it as bad
investment having no return at all. But in future when he gains people around him look at him
with astonished eyes.
The third type praises for no return. They are Good Samaritan. They are divine soul. They are
permanent happy. They remain far from the gain and loss account of life. They avoid allurement.
They praise so that the concerned person can show such goodness again. Their words inspire the
elevated soul to work better.
The fourth type praises never. They are cursed souls and cannot enjoy life. They are permanent
unlucky.
So from praise and no praise the state and status of any concerned person can be ascertained.
Praise is not an easy matter. To praise spontaneity is required. Extempore speech highlights it.
Only an elevated soul can do it. It is an orientation. It is a blessing. An evil soul is deprived from
such blessing. He experiences inner pull whenever he wishes to praise. He is unable to break that
barrier. Here lies his utter failure.
He who always finds fault with others can never praise. He is self-imprisoned. He is so blind that
he cannot see the positive side of anybody. He is afraid of light. He always rushes towards
darkness. He is so cursed. For this self-created crisis he cannot prosper in life. Such a person is
called problem child. In reality a problem child is a hindrance towards development. He is a
psychiatric patient. It seems unguarded childhood coupled with unshaded infant offered him such
a unique personality. Through proper counseling such a diverted person can be tracked again in
the main stream of life.
Courtesy costs nothing. It is equally true in case of praise also. A wicked person does not praise.
Rather he enjoys sadistic pleasure observing the misery of the victims.
A sly person does not praise all, everybody and everywhere. He praises cautiously. He considers
both person and place. If he praises a labourer for his outcome then the labourer may claim extra
or higher remuneration. Obviously a professional person seldom cares for praise. An expert
person knows that his demand is for his sincere work. So he seldom cares for praise. He cares for
perfection which is the most crucial factor in reality.
CONCLUSION
An illiterate person does not get recognition. None praises a labourer. They die unpaid. They die
unfed. They die unwept. They die unsung. They die unknown as well like nameless thousands
who built the pyramids. This is the untold story of praise.
