Project news
Ground seismic shaking may induce damage on
underground structures and tunnels
An analytical framework for seismic vulnerability
assessment of tunnels against ground seismic
shaking in the transverse direction is currently
under development in the frame of research
project INFRARES
Advanced numerical models of the ground-
tunnel configurations are being used to evaluate
the capacity and demand of examined tunnels,
accounting for all nonlinearities (ground, liner,
interface)
The application of the methodology on various
configurations leads to the proposal of new
fragility functions for the assessment of tunnels
against ground seismic shaking
Is it possible to evaluate the vulnerability of tunnels against ground seismic
shaking?
