In this note, new records of Heteroptera from the island of Lanzarote are reported. They are based on
photographic records uploaded to the online database iNaturalist.
So far, Oncocephalus squalidus (Rossi, 1790) (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) has been reported for the
islands of La Palma and Tenerife (HEISS & BÁEZ, 1990; RIBES & RIBES, 1997; AUKEMA et al., 2006,
2013; ROCA-CUSACHS et al., 2020). Now, the island of Lanzarote can be added to the list of the
distribution of O. squalidus on the Canary Islands: On 20-08-2021, an adult specimen (Fig. 1) was
photographed in the courtyard of a private house in Costa Teguise, located at the eastern coast of the
island (see here). Likely, the specimen was attracted by artificial light.
Until now, Leptodemus minutus (Jakovlev, 1876) (Heteroptera: Oxycarenidae) has been reported for
the islands of Tenerife and Fuerteventura (HEISS et al., 1996; AUKEMA et al., 2006, 2013; RIEGER,
2020; ROCA-CUSACHS et al., 2020). The species is present on the island of Lanzarote, too: On 12-07-
2022, an adult specimen of L. minutus (Fig. 2) was photographed in the courtyard of a private house in
Costa Teguise (see here).
AUKEMA et al. (2013) and ROCA-CUSACHS et al. (2020) listed Anepsiocoris encaustus (Puton, 1869)
(Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae) as present on the island of Gran Canaria. Additionally, RIEGER (2020)
reported the species as new for the island of Fuerteventura. A. encaustus is present on the island of
Lanzarote, too: On 17-05-2021, an adult specimen was photographed in the courtyard of a private house
in Costa Teguise (see here).

In this study, the presence, distribution, and chorology of more than 3,000 individuals belonging 38 families and 173 species of Heteroptera from the Canary Islands has been revised. Specimens of the suborder Heteroptera were collected from the different islands and an updated checklist of the species occurring in the archipelago is presented. Three new records for the Canaries and 36 new records for at least one island are presented herein.

New data on the Heteroptera fauna of La Palma, Canary Islands (Insecta: Hemiptera). In: KMENT P., MALENOVSKÝ I. & KOLIBÁÈ J. (eds.): Studies in Hemiptera in honour of Pavel Lauterer and Jaroslav L. Stehlík. Acta Musei Moraviae, Scientiae biologicae (Brno) 98(2): 459–493. – Heteroptera collected on La Palma in the Canary Islands during the period 2001–2012 are listed. Data for 153 species are given, including 28 species recorded for the first time from La Palma. Six of these species are also new for the Canary Islands: Cantacader quadricornis (Lepeletier et Serville, 1828) (Tingidae), Bryocoris pteridis (Fallén, 1807), Macrolophus pygmaeus (Rambur, 1839), Thiomiris sulphureus (Reuter, 1879) (all Miridae), Amphiareus obscuriceps (Poppius, 1909) (Anthocoridae) and Ischnodemus quadratus Fieber, 1837 (Lygaeidae). Furthermore, the occurrence of eight species on La Palma is confirmed. With this contribution the number of species known from the Canary Islands and La Palma increases to 400 and 216 respectively. The number of Canarian endemic species on La Palma is 48 (22.2 %). Lindbergopsallus lauri Rieger, 2012 and L. lunariae Rieger, Strauß et Günther, 2011 (Miridae), Collartida tanausu J. Ribes, Oromi et E. Ribes, 1998 (Reduviidae) and Nysius gloriae Baena et Garcia, 1999 (Lygaeidae) are only known from La Palma.
