Data Generating Garments Using Low Cost Sensors

Today's clothes are passive items that we wear, visually interesting, but otherwise silent. What if our clothes could generate data and connect directly to the digital world? In this study, we describe a data generating sports top that can be the basis of a smart coach. The construction of the garment and its use of low-cost sensors and wireless transmission of data is described. Its use for measuring the upper body pose to analyze the bowling action of cricketers is demonstrated, along with considerations of how this could be a basis for combining smart garments and AI.

From a coaching perspective, technique consistency has been typically associated with superior performance in these areas. [Show full abstract] batsmens' strengths and weaknesses. The relationship between technique and performance variability (and consistency) has not been investigated in previous fast bowling research. Consequently, the aim of this study was to quantify both technique (bowling action and coordination) and performance variability in elite fast bowlers from Australian Junior and National Pace Squads. Technique variability was analysed to investigate whether it could be classified as functional or dysfunctional in relation to speed and accuracy.

A comparison of pitch length variations and the ability to control length in cricket fast bowling

This study aimed to identify differences between ball release parameters and different pitch length deliveries in cricket fast bowling. A total of 707 fast bowling trials (bouncers, yorkers, stock balls) performed by 21 male fast bowlers were recorded and used to investigate the variations in ball release parameters. Ball release angle (p < 0.05) was significantly different between all three ... [Show full abstract] deliveries, while resultant ball release speed, and ball release height of the bouncer deliveries were significantly different (p < 0.05) to yorker and stock deliveries. Furthermore, the success rates of bowlers achieving their intended variation highlighted a difficulty in delivering yorker deliveries compared to bouncer and stock deliveries. Results provide a foundation for coaching and future research, in particularly investigating the kinematic and kinetic factors linked with different length fast bowling deliveries.

It is uncommon for an injury from cricket to require surgery. The implementation of rule changes together with better coaching, early accurate diagnosis, and appropriate rehabilitation have helped players avoid and, if they occur, properly manage their injuries.
