Within the last two decades, various updated checklists of the Heteroptera of the Canary Islands were
published (AUKEMA et al., 2006, 2013; ROCA-CUSACHS et al., 2020). Since then, several new records
for the archipelago or at least for specific islands have been reported (RIEGER, 2020; BAENA &
SANTOS, 2021; DIOLI et al., 2021; VAN DER HEYDEN, 2023). In this note, more new records are
reported in addition to the above mentioned publications.
Leptoglossus gonagra (Fabricius, 1775) (Heteroptera: Coreidae) was reported by AUKEMA et al. (2006,
2013) for the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. ROCA-CUSACHS et al. (2020) added the island of
La Palma to the list of its distribution on the Canary Islands. Recently, L. gonagra was found on the
island of El Hierro: On 21-11-2022, an adult specimen was photographed near the Pozo de Las Calcosas
in the northern part of the island (Fig. 1). Photos of the specimen were uploaded to the online database
iNaturalist (see here and here).
AUKEMA et al. (2006, 2013) and ROCA-CUSACHS et al. (2020) reported Beosus maritimus (Scopoli,
1763) (Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae) for the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife and
Gran Canaria. The presence of B. maritimus on the island of Fuerteventura can be added to this list: On

27-01-2019, four specimens were found in Geafond, located south of Corralejo in the northern part of
the island. Photos of one specimen were uploaded to the online database iNaturalist (see here).
Eurydema lundbladi Lindberg, 1960 (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was reported by AUKEMA et al. (2006,
2013) and ROCA-CUSACHS et al. (2020) for the islands of La Palma and Tenerife. The species was
found on the island of Gran Canaria, too: On 06-07-2019, an adult specimen of E. lundbladi was
photographed in Cuesta de los Alvarados, located between Santa Brígida and Tafira Alta in the
northeastern part of the island (Fig. 2). Photos of the specimen were uploaded to the online database
iNaturalist (see here).
Piezodorus teretipes (Stål, 1865) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) was reported by AUKEMA et al. (2006,
2013) for the islands of La Gomera, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. ROCA-CUSACHS et al. (2020) added
the island of La Palma to the list of its distribution on the Canary Islands. The species is present on the
islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, too: On 28-01-2014, 30-10-2022 and 12-11-2022, adult specimens
of P. teretipes were found in several locations on Tenerife: in Los Gigantes, in Puertito de Güímar (Fig.
3) and in Mesa del Mar. Photos of the found specimens were uploaded to the online database iNaturalist
(see here, here and here). Furthermore, on 28-10-2022 an adult specimen of P. teretipes was found in
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the capital of the province. Photos of the specimen were uploaded to the
online database iNaturalist (see here).
DIOLI et al. (2021) reported a record of Nariscus spinosus (Burmeister, 1835) (Heteroptera: Alydidae)
from Gran Canaria, stating that it was the first one of this species for the Canary Islands.
Furthermore, VAN DER HEYDEN (2022) reported a record of N. spinosus from Fuerteventura as the
first one for that island. Both statements are incorrect as the first record of N. spinosus for
Fuerteventura, and thus for the entire archipelago, had previously been reported by RIEGER (2020),
based on one specimen collected in 2012.

... (see here). VAN DER HEYDEN (2023), based on a photographic record (see here), reported Beosus maritimus (Scopoli, 1763) (Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae) as new for the island of Fuerteventura. This report was based on a misidentification and has to be corrected: The photographs show a specimen of the very similar species Dieuches schmitzi Reuter, 1893 (Heteroptera: Rhyparochromidae), first reported for the island of Fuerteventura by RIEGER (2020). ...

In Macaronesia, Eurydema oleracea (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is only present in the Azores. Eurydema lundbladi Lindberg, 1960 and Eurydema ornata (Linnaeus, 1758) are present in the Canary Islands. No Eurydema Laporte, 1832 species has been found in the Cape Verde Islands. Eurydema ventralis Kolenati, 1846 is observed for the first time on the island of Madeira and in Macaronesia, bringing the number of Eurydema species present on Madeira to four, with Eurydema herbacea (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1834), E. lundbladi and E. ornata, and to five in Macaronesia.

Nariscus spinosus is first reported from Gran Canaria Island (Spain). A male specimen, easily recognizable by the presence of a long spine in the posterior femurs and the very elongate head, was photographed in the southern sector of the island. Its host plant (Acacia farnesiana), an alien and invasive species of South American origin, is also reported.

In this study, the presence, distribution, and chorology of more than 3,000 individuals belonging 38 families and 173 species of Heteroptera from the Canary Islands has been revised. Specimens of the suborder Heteroptera were collected from the different islands and an updated checklist of the species occurring in the archipelago is presented. Three new records for the Canaries and 36 new records for at least one island are presented herein.

New data on the Heteroptera fauna of La Palma, Canary Islands (Insecta: Hemiptera). In: KMENT P., MALENOVSKÝ I. & KOLIBÁÈ J. (eds.): Studies in Hemiptera in honour of Pavel Lauterer and Jaroslav L. Stehlík. Acta Musei Moraviae, Scientiae biologicae (Brno) 98(2): 459–493. – Heteroptera collected on La Palma in the Canary Islands during the period 2001–2012 are listed. Data for 153 species are given, including 28 species recorded for the first time from La Palma. Six of these species are also new for the Canary Islands: Cantacader quadricornis (Lepeletier et Serville, 1828) (Tingidae), Bryocoris pteridis (Fallén, 1807), Macrolophus pygmaeus (Rambur, 1839), Thiomiris sulphureus (Reuter, 1879) (all Miridae), Amphiareus obscuriceps (Poppius, 1909) (Anthocoridae) and Ischnodemus quadratus Fieber, 1837 (Lygaeidae). Furthermore, the occurrence of eight species on La Palma is confirmed. With this contribution the number of species known from the Canary Islands and La Palma increases to 400 and 216 respectively. The number of Canarian endemic species on La Palma is 48 (22.2 %). Lindbergopsallus lauri Rieger, 2012 and L. lunariae Rieger, Strauß et Günther, 2011 (Miridae), Collartida tanausu J. Ribes, Oromi et E. Ribes, 1998 (Reduviidae) and Nysius gloriae Baena et Garcia, 1999 (Lygaeidae) are only known from La Palma.
