This chapter outlines the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ forced migrants, with a special focus on the role of religion in motivating persecution as well as assistance and resilience. It also provides a case study of the LGBT Asylum Task Force in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Task Force is a ministry of Hadwen Park Congregational Church, UCC, and is the only program in the U.S. dedicated to providing wrap-around services, including housing, to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.

Since 1947, the commission on HRs has been working on monitoring, following up and protecting HRs all over the world, and due to the limitations of its competencies, the HRs council was established to replace the commission after granting it broader competencies to exercise the function of monitoring and protecting HRs . [Show full abstract] and communications system in addition to the system of special rapporteurs, taking into account the confidentiality of procedures and information, and on the other hand, it established advisory committees to be a new and effective procedure in supporting and developing the council's procedures in the protection of HRs . During the past period, the council has been able to increase the effectiveness of the complaints and communications system by modernizing them and ensuring seriousness and reliability .it has also worked to increase the effectiveness of the special rapporteurs system, in addition to deepening the council's closed procedures with the state and the complainant. it has also expanded the complaints procedures to include nine major human rights conventions so that individuals in all countries can submit their complaints, in addition to increasing the effectiveness of states ' reports on HRs violations.

Background: The Disease Control Priorities 3 (DCP3) project provides long-term support to Pakistan in the development and implementation of its universal health coverage essential package of health services (UHC-EPHS). This paper reports on the priority setting process used in the design of the EPHS during the period 2019-2020, employing the framework of evidence-informed deliberative processes ... [Show full abstract] (EDPs), a tool for priority setting with the explicit aim of optimising the legitimacy of decision-making in the development of health benefit packages. Methods: We planned the six steps of the framework during two workshops in the Netherlands with participants from all DCP3 Pakistan partners (October 2019 and February 2020), who implemented these at the country level in Pakistan in 2019 and 2020. Following implementation, we conducted a semi-structured online survey to collect the views of participants in the UHC benefit package design about the prioritisation process. Results: The key steps in the EDP framework were the installation of advisory committees (involving more than 150 members in several Technical Working Groups [TWGs] and a National Advisory Committee [NAC]), definition of decision criteria (effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, avoidable burden of disease, equity, financial risk protection, budget impact, socio-economic impact and feasibility), selection of interventions for evaluation (a total of 170), and assessment and appraisal (across the three dimensions of the UHC cube) of these interventions. Survey respondents were generally positive across several aspects of the priority setting process. Conclusion: Despite several challenges, including a partial disruption because of the COVID-19 pandemic, implementation of the priority setting process may have improved the legitimacy of decision-making by involving stakeholders through participation with deliberation, and being evidence-informed and transparent. Important lessons were learned that can be beneficial for other countries designing their own health benefit package such as on the options and limitations of broad stakeholder involvement.

Police ethics committees in England and Wales: Exploratory online and web surveys

Drawing from practice and learning of Clinical Ethics Committees, Police Ethics Committees began to emerge in the years following the statutory creation of the College of Policing in 2012, but there is little research on their form and effectiveness. [Show full abstract] their title fell within two different types. First, discursive and advisory committees, largely inclusive but with those operated by the large forces in London and Greater Manchester functioning more like expert panels. Second, some committees operated within formal governance structures, receiving reports and scrutinizing aspects of police performance including complaints. Variation in operation between Police Ethics Committees was evident in respect of composition, web presence and reporting mechanisms. Further research on the operation and effectiveness of Ethics Committees is required.

The centenary of IFLA is approaching. IFLA’s Library History Special Interest Group has embarked on various projects to prepare for the event, including the compilation of an edited volume of scholarly chapters on IFLA’s history. This article originated as a background paper for members of the Library History Special Interest Group and others who may be contemplating conducting research on IFLA ... [Show full abstract] with a view to the centenary in 2027. An overview is given of published sources for the historiography of IFLA. These include publications about IFLA published by IFLA and its structures, and by other parties. IFLA’s own publications include guidelines and standards; policy statements; reports on the work of its professional units and strategic advisory committees; the IFLA Publications Series; and report series such as the IFLA World Reports and Trend Reports. Much of this material is published on IFLA’s websites, both current and archived. It provides valuable evidence of IFLA’s activities. In this article, the emphasis is on material about IFLA published by IFLA itself and by other parties. The literature about IFLA includes historical accounts published as articles, books, book chapters and theses. Many contain useful bibliographies. With a view to identifying topics and themes for the historiography of IFLA, the subject matter of some 294 items about IFLA published from 2000 to 2022 inclusive is analysed. Brief attention is paid to possible themes emerging from the literature that may be useful in developing research on IFLA.
