Four phasmid species, Ramulus mikado (Rehn, 1904), Neohirasea japonica (de Haan, 1842), Phraortes elongatus (Thunberg, 1815) and Sipyloidea sipylus (Westwood, 1859) were recorded at the Ito Campus of Kyushu University, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan.

Host specificity of insects in a community of co-dominant Eucalyptus species

In a subalpine association of three Eucalyptus species, phytophagous insects showed strong host preferences even among very closely related Eucalyptus species. Sixty-three per cent of insect species attacked only one eucalypt species, 30% attacked two species and only 8% fed on all three. A new species, Urumaelmis flammea Nakajima and Kamite, sp. nov., is described from Kyushu, Japan. This is the second species of the genus Urumaelmis Satô, 1963. The new species differs from the previously known species in the body size, the elytral carinae, and the shape of the aedeagus.
