RESUMEN
Primera cita de Anisoscelis podalicus (BRAILOVSKY & MAYORGA, 1995)
(Heteroptera: Coreidae: Coreinae: Anisoscelini) en Nicaragua
Se presenta la primera cita de Anisoscelis podalicus (BRAILOVSKY & MAYORGA,
1995) para Nicaragua. Se resume información adicional sobre el género
Anisoscelis LATREILLE, 1829 y A. podalicus.

ABSTRACT
The first record of Anisoscelis podalicus (BRAILOVSKY & MAYORGA, 1995) for
Nicaragua is reported. Additional information on the genus Anisoscelis
LATREILLE, 1829 and A. podalicus is summarized.

INTRODUCTION
The genus Anisoscelis LATREILLE, 1829 belongs to the tribe Anisoscelini within
the subfamily Coreinae of the Coreidae (Heteroptera). It includes ten species
and is distributed from Texas in the United States of America across Central
America and South America (Brailovsky 2016).
So far, Anisoscelis podalicus (BRAILOVSKY & MAYORGA, 1995) has only been
known from Costa Rica (Brailovsky & Mayorga 1995, Packauskas & Schaefer
2001, van der Heyden 2007a, 2007b, 2012, Packauskas 2010).
The distribution area of this species has been expanded, as a specimen was
found in Nicaragua.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
On 23-V-2022, Perla Esmeralda Laguna Peña photographed an adult specimen
of A. podalicus in the village of Dolores, located in the department Carazo
about 30 km south of Managua and 100 km north of the border of Costa Rica
(Figs. 1 and 2). Both photos of the specimen were uploaded to the online
database iNaturalist (Laguna 2022).
DISCUSSION
Based on two male specimens found in 1962 and 1977 in Guanacaste, the
northwestern province of Costa Rica, A. podalicus was first described by
Brailovsky & Mayorga (1995) as Bitta podalica. Packauskas & Schaefer (2001)
established the genus Bitta OSUNA, 1984 as a synonym of Anisoscelis, changing
the name of the species to A. podalicus.
Apart from the holotype and the paratype from Guanacaste, A. podalicus was
reported from Escazú, a suburb of San José located in the Central Valley in
Costa Rica (van der Heyden 2007a, 2007b, 2012).
As A. podalicus has not been reported for Nicaragua in scientific publications
yet, the record reported in this note is the first one for this country.

The Revista Nicaragüense de Entomología (ISSN 1021-0296) is a journal
published by the Entomological Museum of Leon, in consecutive numeration,
but not periodical. RNE publishes original research, monographs, and
taxonomic revisions, of any length. RNE publishes original scientific research,
review articles, brief communications, and book reviews on all matters of
Entomology, Acarology and Arachnology in the Americas. Comparative
faunistic works with fauna from other parts of the world are also considered.
Color illustrations are welcome as a better way to understand the publication.
