Study status quo and propose sustainable livelihoods models at Thuong Lo commune, Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province

Abstract

Thuong Lo is a mountainous commune with more than 90% ethnic minorities; the livelihood of the commune people is mainly agricultural and forestry production. People's livelihood activities take place in terrain, land, water sources, and weather with many disadvantages; the level and methods of agricultural production and cultivation are still minimal, mainly manual, low productivity, systematic risk, and natural disasters. The article used sociological survey methods, in-depth interviews, and expert methods… to assess livelihood sources and the current status of livelihood models at Thuong Lo commune, Nam Dong district. Based on recent research, the article proposes to replicate highly effective models and builds new livelihood models with higher levels of sustainability in the context of increasingly complex climate change. Some proposed sustainable livelihood models suitable for the locality include the community tourism linkage chain, model of linking and developing non-timber forest products value chain, garden economy model, combined organic animal husbandry, and cottage industry…
