This research analyzes the adaptation of the comic Gartxot (Asisko Urmeneta, Marko Armspach & Jokin Larrea, 2003) to the film Gartxot, The Conquest Before The Conquest (Gartxot, Konkista Aitzineko Konkista, Urmeneta & Elordi), launched in Spain in 2011. The film, like the comic, was completely produced in Basque, which was not a trouble to be internationally projected and awarded. It was also made in 2D cartoon, being aesthetically closed to the comic. Using documentary analysis, we study the creative processes of the adaptation comic-film, being one and the other based on the legend of El Bardo de Itzaltzu, written by the Spanish historian Arturo Campion in 1917. This research is the first one in raising the comic and film of Gartxot to the Academy, and it is also a memory of the Campion’s cultural studies.
