INTRODUCTION
Turmeric is a flowering plant, Curcuma longa of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, the roots
which are used for cooking. The plant is a perennial, rhizomatous, herbaceous plant and native to
the indian subcontinent and southeast Asia, and requires temperature between 20 and 30 °C. Plants are
gathered each year for their rhizomes, some for propagation in the following season and some for
consumption. The rhizomes are used as fresh or boiled in water and dried, after which they are ground
into a deep orange-yellow powder and commonly used as a coloring and flavoring agent in many Asian
countries, especially for curries, as well as for dyeing. Turmeric powder has a warm, bitter, black
pepper-like flavor, mustard-like aroma. Though, long used in Ayurvedic medicine, where it is also
called haridra. The greatest diversity of Curcuma species by number alone is in India, at around 40 to
45 species. Thailand has a comparable 30 to 40 species. Individual plants grow at a height of 1m, and
have large, oblong leaves. Plants are gathered annually for their rhizomes. The rhizome, which the
turmeric is derived, is tuberous, with a rough skin. The rhizomes mature beneath the foliage in the
ground. They are yellowish brown with a dull orange interior. The main rhizome tapered at the distal
end and measures 2.5-7.0 cm (1-3 inches) in length and 2.5 cm (1 inch) in diameter, with smaller tubers
branching off. When the turmeric rhizome is dried, it can be ground to a yellow powder with a better,
slightly acrid, yet sweet and taste. India produces nearly the world’s entire turmeric crop and consumes
80% of it. Traditionally, turmeric milk (haldi doodh) comes from Ayurvedic practices and is prevalent in
Indian culture. In the simplest form, it is a combination of hot milk and turmeric. Ayurvedic and
Chinese medicine have been prescribing golden turmeric milk for centuries. The golden milk helps to
reduce the diseases of human beings and it have advantages and disadvantages. Turmeric milk is used to
control the heart disease and other way to increase memory power.

TO REDUCE INFLAMMATION AND JOINT PAIN
The ingredients in golden milk have anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation is thought to
play a significant role in chronic diseases, including cancer, metabolic syndrome and heart disease. For this, diet
rich in anti-inflammatory compounds may reduce the risk of these conditions. These anti-inflammatory effects
may reduce joint pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
TO IMPROVE MEMORY AND BRAIN FUNCTION
Curcumin may increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF is a compound
which helps to promote the growth of brain cells. Low levels of BDNF may be linked to brain disorders,
including Alzheimer’s disease. It appears that turmeric is more specifically its active compound and may boost
mood and reduce symptoms of depression. Depression may also be linked to low levels of brain-derived
neurotrophic factor (BDNF). As curcumin appears to boost levels of BDNF, it may have the potential to reduce
symptoms of depression.
