Souche R., illus. Fabre M., 2021.

Rebbas, K., Bougaham, A.F., Rebbas, N. & E. Véla (2021): Inventory of Orchids in the Wilaya of Béjaïa (Little Kabylia, Algeria) over seventeen years.- J. Eur. Orch. 53 (2-4): in press... This article represents a collaborative work initiated 17 years ago (2004-2020) on the inventory, illustration, cartography and taxonomy of Orchids in the 52 communes of the Wilaya (Province) of Béjaïa. This wilaya is located in the sector of the Little Kabylie, sheltering a rich and diversified flora whose census is still incomplete. With 44 orchids (species and subspecies) and seven hybrids on more than 1,000 single observation, this region confirms the high potential for diversity known throughout Kabylia and Numidia. The taxonomic revision work on orchids was carried out in support of various works on the Orchids of Algeria and North Africa. The authors present the orchid stations discovered and rediscovered in the Wilaya of Béjaia. Species and subspecies of orchids have been observed, identified and located. Among these species, Ophrys omegaifera subsp. hayekii, Ophrys funerea, Ophrys maghrebiaca, Ophrys marmorata, Orchis mascula subsp. maghrebiana and Orchis purpurea, were observed or confirmed for the first time or only recently in the wilaya.

Castel Fusano (Roma, Lazio).

DELFORGE, P.-New nomenclatural and taxonomical contributions to European Orchids. Some new combinations and descriptions for European Orchids are formally made. Anacamptis pyramidalis (LINNAEUS) L.C.M. RICHARD var. pyramidalis f. sanguinea (DRUCE) P. A new hybrid between Ophrys crabronifera Mauri subsp. pollinensis (E. Nelson ex Devillers-Tersch. & Devillers) H. Baumann & R. Lorenz and Ophrys insectifera L. is here described, called Ophrys ×peteri, in memory of Peter Steffan, thr Author’s father, died in 1988. This is the first interspecific hybrid described between O. insectifera and a species of the O. crabronifera group and/or the O. argolica group, under which some authors include crabronifera too. This hybrid was found in 1985 by Maurizio Maria and Peter Steffan, in the Picentini Mts. (territory of Campagna, Salerno), close to the Sanctuary of Madonna of Avigliano, along the S.P. 31 to about 750 m a.s.l., in a clearing at the side of the road. In 2018, after much research, very difficult due to the wooded growth, the author was able to find the exact site, where both parental species were present, but not their hybrid. At least other 20 orchid taxa occurred in this place, as well as the anomalous discovery, in the same environments, of Thymelaea tartonraira (L.) All., a rather rare plant, usually linked to purely maritime rock environments.

A single Ophrys individual growing on rocky ground in the north area of the island Gozo (Malta) in March of 2018, was found to have unique characters not exhibited in any species growing in Malta. The orchid was growing very close to O. tenthredinifera and a scattered population of O. melitensis. From the intermediate state of several characters between these two species, it was concluded that this individual is a hybrid of these parents. Since O. melitensis is endemic to the Maltese Islands, this hybrid is hence an addition to the endemic flora of Malta.

Soca R., 2017. Inventory of Ophrys (Orchidaceae) hybrids of Italy.- J. Eur. Orch. 49 (3-4): 565-642. The author makes the census of the hybrids of the Ophrys genus described from Italy. It is the first work on this subject in Italy which can be part of a larger project to identify the endemic plants of Italy. The binomials of the parents are indicated such as announced by the descriptors as well as according to ROMOLINI & SOUCHE (2012). Indication of the herbarium(a) in which the types are deposited is also given. Some statistics are presented: the list of the described Ophrys hybrids from Italy by region, the list of the herbaria and the presence of the types, the number of hybrids described by Italian and by foreigners. It should be noted that very few synonymous descriptions exist: only seventeen, which are mostly the result of individuals who do not have a comprehensive documentation correlated to journals without proper scientific advices. Only fifty three can be regarded as non strict endemic in Italy. And twenty-nine are absent from “ The International Plant Names Index ” (IPNI) list.
