Recently, the assassin bug Stenolemus novaki Horváth, 1888 (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) was reported for
the second time from Portugal (GROSSO-SILVA & FERREIRA, 2020).
GROSSO-SILVA & FERREIRA (2020) mentioned records of S. novaki from the Spanish
provinces of Barcelona and Girona in Catalonia and assumed that the species might be present in a
number of Spanish provinces between Barcelona and the Portuguese south-western coast, but that
there might be a lack of records because of the small size of the species and its elusive behaviour.
SIMOV et al. (2017) also mentioned that the species might be overlooked due to cryptic habits.
Now, the presence of S. novaki in two more Spanish provinces can be reported: On 16-02-2019
and on 10-12-2019, the species was found and photographed by Simon Oliver near Yegen, located in the
province of Granada in Andalusia. Photographs of the specimens were uploaded to the online database
Natusfera (see here and here).
On 18-06-2022, an adult specimen of S. novaki was found and photographed by Kristian Leahy
near Miraflores de la Sierra in the Community of Madrid (Fig. 1). The photograph of the specimen was
also uploaded to the online database Natusfera (see here).
