After Trump’s 2016 election, the hashtags #BindTrump and #MagicResistance emerged, and a social movement formed. Witches across North America gather monthly and perform rituals to stop Trump from doing harm, which they then disseminate through social media. This essay will explore the employment of magic under the banner of witchcraft as a political practice. As hexes are being performed collectively, filmed and transmitted through social media, protest and witchcraft are becoming intermingled and embody a ritualized modality of political activism. By viewing witchcraft as a political activity, we can understand what it is about witchcraft that has geared political struggles in a manner that party politics fails to.
