Since the next three chapters will contain some heavy-duty Abstract Algebraic Logic, we include here some basic notions on the subject to keep this book reasonably self-contained. This chapter is not an Abstract Algebraic Logic primer: for a far more extensive treatment and for the occasional bits of unexplained terminology and notation, the reader is referred to what is by now the standard reference in the discipline, the textbook [96].

Bi-intuitionistic logics through the abstract algebraic logic lens

Since the discovery of critical mistakes in Rauszer's work on bi-intuitionistic logics, solid foundations for these have progressively been rebuilt. However, the algebraic treatment of these logics has not yet been tended to. We fill this gap by algebraically analysing the bi-intuitionistic logics wBIL and sBIL. [Show full abstract] sets of theorems (hence the conflation in Rauszer's work), the algebraic tools we use are tailored to the treatment of such relations. We mainly inspect these logics through the lens of abstract algebraic logic, but we also provide an alternative algebraic analysis of wBIL and sBIL as logic preserving degrees of truth and truth, respectively. Our results pertaining to wBIL and sBIL are formalised in the interactive theorem prover Rocq.

Using MATLAB/Simulink simulation tools, a dual-loop control simulation model is established for the Stewart platform, incorporating both conventional PID control and the gain-enhanced PID control optimized by generalized Boolean algebra. Both models are configured with identical PID parameters for simulation, and comparative experimental results are presented. The experimental results demonstrate that, in the Simulink simulation model of the Stewart platform's pose control system, the proposed gain-enhanced PID control system optimized by generalized Boolean algebra improves the dynamic performance and response speed compared to the traditional PID control system, enhancing the real-time performance and stability of the Stewart platform control.

Ontic structuralists claim that there are no individual objects, and that reality should instead be thought of as a “web of relations”. It is difficult to make this metaphysical picture precise, however, since languages usually characterize the world by describing the objects that exist in it. This paper proposes a solution to the problem; I argue that when discourse is reformulated in the ... [Show full abstract] language of the calculus of relations ‐ an algebraic logic developed by Alfred Tarski ‐ it can be interpreted without presupposing the existence of objects. What is distinctive about the language of the calculus is that it contains no operator that resembles a quantifier, and yet it can be used to paraphrase any sentence expressible in first‐order logic. Since the use of a first‐order quantifier (or some similar operator) is usually what establishes commitment to an ontology of objects, and since the calculus of relations eschews the quantifier in favor of a composition operator that can be given a natural interpretation consistent with structuralist metaphysics, the calculus is an ideal language for the structuralist to use to describe the world.
