A World Association of Academics & Researchers
ATINER aims to create an organization like Plato’s
Academy or Aristotle’s Lyceum where academics and
researchers from all over the world, with a pedagogy
similar to Ancient Athens, can gather in a symposium type
(small) of meetings to exchange ideas on their research and
discuss future developments in their disciplines.

Where these two (Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s
Lyceum) the only schools in ancient Athens which inspired
for ATINER? Of course not. Many others existed, e.g.:
(a) Cynics [Antisthenes, Diogenes]
(b) Stoics [Zeno]
(c) Epicureans [Epicurus, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius,
Epictetus]
(d) Sophists (Protagoras, Gorgias, Hippias, Prodicus,
Antiphon
Diogenes
Plato-Aristotle
Euclid
Socrates
Epicurus
Zeno

Apart from a regular school programs and
irregular lectures, a number of symposiums were
organized throughout the year on various
occasions with the restricted participation of a few
(maximum 50) who were invited to attend even
though uninvited attendees was a common
practice The logistics of organizing one such event
has inspired ATINER’s organization.

The
Symposium was Interrupted by the Violent Invasion of Intoxicated Athenian Youth Led by Alcibiades –a student of Socrates. A practice
which
is
still followed today by Greek University Students; usually to demonstrate political demands. After the demand of many he spoke.
His
intervention
was the last and not in the program. He spoke under the heavy influence of alcohol and who knows what else. ATINER does
this
many
times for latecomers but not for the uninvited.
