ABSTRACT
Among the essential elements of knowledge management is the use of
information and data, as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities inherent
within communities, as well as their ideas, commitments, and motivations for
making good decisions as emerging technologies become more prevalent.
Numerous leading social scientists in this field have asserted that organizational
knowledge should be regarded as a strategic asset. There is a growing
awareness of the importance of gathering, locating, capturing, and sharing
collective knowledge and expertise of societies, and societies are urged to
develop effective and efficient methods of gathering, locating, capturing, and
sharing that knowledge in order to deal with problems and to benefit from
opportunities. People living in many countries and regions are interested in
implementing knowledge management processes and technologies, and many
of them have included knowledge management as an integral part of their
overall development strategies. The management of knowledge plays an
increasingly important role in global economic development (Bell, 1973, 1978).
In order to remain relevant in the modern world, organizations should not
ignore knowledge management and emerging technologies.

Introduction. Traditionally, knowledge is believed to be distinct from data and information. As
technology advances, new possibilities are becoming available. The integration and sharing of highly
distributed information is a prerequisite for achieving effective performance and growth in knowledge-
intensive societies. Over the past few decades, as the society has grown and evolved in sync with evolving
technology, knowledge management has become one of the most important aspects enabling the
productivity and competitiveness of society and organizations to increase to the same level regardless of
market conditions. According to McKern (1996), powerful forces lead to powerful outcomes which are
shaping the economic and business climate in the world and many people are calling for a fundamental
change in the way we think and act about the way we run our organizations. Taking into account the
benefits of emerging technologies such as the creation of reusable services that allow organizations to
consume these services on their own, knowledge management is also considered to be a significant element.
Knowledge Management and Emerging Technologies. Throughout an organization there is
a collection of knowledge, which is created and maintained by the members, and with the emergence
of new technologies, a greater amount of knowledge is being produced. When a knowledge
management strategy is implemented throughout the organization, in addition to improving service
levels, it will also increase customer satisfaction and efficiency. To fully comprehend emerging
technologies, we must first determine what they are, what they do, and what they mean for the
organization. The term emerging technology refers to technologies which, in terms of their
development, practical application, or both, have not yet reached their full potential, as such they are

emerging figuratively into prominence from obscurity or nonexistence, for example artificial
intelligence. Emerging technology can refer to new technical developments or to the continuous
improvement of an existing technology. The future of artificial intelligence (AI) and knowledge
management has been discussed at length, as well as the relation between the two (Liebowitz, 2001).
Knowledge Management in a variety of situations, knowledge management is the fastest and easiest
way for an organization to add value.
Knowledge management is also becoming increasingly important due to the rapid changes of
needs, processes, and the process of bringing management systems into dialogue when the proposed
strategy is aligned with the emerging technologies employed by the organization. Having innovative
capabilities arising from emerging technologies, which are meeting the needs and expectations of society,
allows organizations to remain competitive, consistent in meeting expectations and needs, and differentiate
systems based on conceptualized knowledge. The organization can use this knowledge to more effectively
communicate with its partners and customers, which in turn allows them to make better decisions in
response to an issue when addressing it. Emerging technologies have made it possible for partners to access
the information gathered from various sources, which is helpful for the decision-making process.
Emerging Technologies Underpinning Knowledge Management. Since the 1990s,
technology has played a major role in transforming almost everything about organizations' day-to-day
operations. Increasingly, organizations are introducing knowledge management initiatives in order to
spread their programs. Davenport (1998) states that knowledge is framed experiences, values, and
context as expert insights that provide a framework for evaluating & incorporating new information.
In order for the organizations to adopt a knowledge management approach in line with the emerging
technologies, the first fundamental aspect is an increased level of responsiveness to the organization's
customers and partners. In terms of the development and expansion of a business, the knowledge that
is gathered about the people within the organization is valuable for the organization. Obtaining this
knowledge may be difficult in some instances, unless emerging technologies make it more
straightforward to collect and assemble this information from a variety of sources. It is possible, for
instance, to collect different applications and data structures and assemble conclusive demands, and
then develop definitive requests based on those demands.
Challenges Associated with Knowledge Management and Emerging Technologies. There are
a number of dynamic challenges that have emerged from the emergence of new technologies that need to
be addressed if knowledge management processes are to become more effective for organizations. It is
crucial that knowledge management strategists within organizations consider these challenges and develop
strategies that ensure that the recommendations they make in the area of knowledge management help them
to meet their obligations towards consumers and other stakeholders. It is important to note here that there is
an issue that needs to be addressed. Furthermore, it is also important to keep in mind that one of the
challenges we are likely to face when we implement knowledge management concerning emerging
technologies and connected systems has to do with the fact that we are dealing with relatively new systems.
In addition to those reasons, it is also recommended that we keep in mind that even though there are
standards governing how these systems should be implemented, they are still a bit underdeveloped. There
is a possibility that in the future, an organization's knowledge strategy may be faced with ethical dilemmas
arising from the use of new technologies associated with its knowledge strategy. In summary, knowledge
management is evolving from a tool for process improvements and marginal efficiency to a key element of
innovation that will underpin the future of organizations worldwide.
Solution. Whenever it comes to knowledge management, emerging technologies should
suggest options to users, rather than forcing them on them. Knowledge management systems should
not be controlled by technology, neither should technology produce direct effects, nor should
technology dictate how knowledge management systems should be managed. There is no question that
at the end of the day, it is ultimately up to society to determine what they want to do with emerging
technologies that impact knowledge management. What knowledge management technology should
be able to do is simply shed a light on the numerous possibilities that are available to them regarding
knowledge creation, knowledge exchange, and knowledge management. It is ultimately the decision of
intelligent individuals handling these complex systems that will ultimately determine the outcome. It is
no secret that emerging technologies are a necessary part of creating a knowledge strategy for
organizations, as is the use of knowledge systems. Nonetheless, the purpose of the knowledge
management systems and tools is ultimately to assist the organization in achieving a competitive

3
advantage and shouldn't be used to control or dictate the knowledge management pipeline. There are
many technical aspects to the new technology that are causing it to be highly fragmented, with a range
of uses in various parts of society. Consequently, there is no one solution that will fit all organizations
utilizing new technologies for knowledge management and we need to look at each case on its own
merit, which may serve as the basis of future research for the societies.
Conclusions. In the context of emerging technologies, the function of knowledge management
is to improve responsiveness to partners and customers, increase the ability to solve problems, and
develop individual competencies. Knowledge management is one of the greatest assets of the
organization; it is able to make well-informed decisions and to retain the knowledge in the
organization for future use if needed. Incorporating a knowledge management system and emerging
technologies within an organization gives insight into the opportunities that may arise, which prompts
responses to selected issues and services.
Increasing the accuracy of decision-making through the use of knowledge management and
emerging technologies is crucial for an organization's success. To succeed in this process, data must be
collected, the first step in the process. Having collected and organized the data, and having organized
the results in an appropriate manner, it is important to draw conclusions about the implications of the
collected data. Within a few years, the majority of knowledge will likely come from new technologies
and computerized systems, enabling organizations to make more informed decisions and to manage
information more efficiently and effectively.

... The effective management and use of organizational knowledge as a corporate asset has been, and continue to be, a differentiating factor that give organizations a competitive advantage (Janz and Prasarnphanich 2003;Watson 2003;Etzkowitz and Viale 2010;Grant 2013;Mahrinasari et al. 2021;Tiwari 2022). Organizational leaders regard knowledge management, as a formal business process, as one of their essential resources-they aim to optimize the process and invest in state-of-the-art technology and knowledge management systems (KMSs) to tap into and manage organizational knowledge. ...
... People, in addition to information technology and systems, are an inherent part of knowledge management. Knowledge management is a social (peopleoriented) process, as well as a technical (information systems-oriented) process/ system (Tiwari 2022). The processes are operationalized by KMSs, i.e., dedicated systems to facilitate the means to effectively collect, store, transfer, retrieve, and use organizational knowledge (Alavi and Leidner 2001;Mahrinasari et al. 2021). ...
... Since knowledge is an extremely valuable corporate asset, many organizations go to great lengths to implement an efficacious knowledge management process and system to leverage knowledge assets (Seung et al. 2016;Tiwari 2022). However, it is difficult to determine a KMS's return on investment. ...

This paper describes a research study to improve the benefits realization of a company’s knowledge management system. We conducted the research from a social theory research perspective to uncover how to work towards convincing users to use the system willingly and appropriately, i.e., as intended, to maximise its benefits realization. We used critical social heuristics to plan and reflect upon potential improvement actions. It enabled critical thinking to develop, and reflect upon, guidelines to enhance stakeholder engagement and persuade users to adopt the system and use it as intended. Knowledge management enables organizations to effectively manage the organizational knowledge as a corporate asset. When implemented appropriately, it gives organizations a competitive edge. However, it is often not used as intended and can, accordingly, become expensive file storage systems, rather than valuable knowledge management systems. In the company where we conducted this study, a knowledge management system was used as intended by some employees. On the other hand, some employees resisted using it and/or used simply to store documents. It was thus not used as intended by all employees, so the full benefits of knowledge management did not realize. By exploring the system’s dimensions of motivation, control, knowledge, and legitimacy (as per critical social heuristics) from the perspectives of end-users, guidelines for improvement of knowledge management system adoption were derived—the guidelines can be used to increase stakeholder engagement and, accordingly, suitable use, along with benefits realization, of these systems in similar organizations.
... Numerous studies have investigated the relationship between knowledge management and employee performance across diverse sectors, yielding varying outcomes (Chopra et al., 2021;Ode & Ayavoo, 2020;Tiwari, 2022). However, the specific impact of knowledge management on employee per formance within deposit money banks in Nigeria remains inadequately established, presenting a knowledge gap warranting further research attention. ...
... Additionally, heightened employee turnover has escalated recruitment costs and compromised performance. The absence of effective knowledge management has further eroded trust and confidence among employees, making it challenging for them to sustain loyalty to their employers (Tiwari, 2022). The absence of a system for capturing, storing, and sharing knowledge within organizations has resulted in employees grappling to stay informed and current on industry developments (Akhter & Tariq, 2020;Ayetigbo et al., 2023). ...

Employees play a crucial role in advancing an organization's human and social capital, contributing significantly to knowledge creation and management, especially in the banking sector. Acknowledging their importance, the banking industry prioritizes improving its workforce. As a result, organizations, particularly those in Nigerian banking, invest resources in boosting employee performance through training, motivation, and career development. Despite these endeavours, there are still observable shortcomings in the performance of employees within Nigerian deposit money banks. The study adopted a survey research design. The population of the study consists of 4,873 employees of the eight selected deposit money banks in Lagos State, Nigeria. A sample size of 464 was determined, and data was collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha value ranging from 0.79 to 0.92. The data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential tools. A response rate of 87.2% was recorded. Simple linear regression analysis was used to determine the effect of the variables using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 27. The findings revealed knowledge acquisition had a significant effect on employee performance in selected deposit money banks in Lagos State, Nigeria (Adj. R = 0.784; F(1, 404) = 64.762; p < 0.05), also, knowledge sharing had a significant effect on employee performance (Adj. R = 0.702; F(1, 404) = 390.478; p < 0.05), similarly, knowledge application had a significant effect on employee performance (Adj. R = 0.810; F(1, 404) = 769.885; p < 0.05). The study concluded that knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, and knowledge application have significant effects on employee performance. Based on these findings, it is recommended that deposit money banks in Nigeria invest in robust knowledge management programs and initiatives. These programs should focus on enhancing employees' abilities to acquire, share, and apply knowledge effectively. Implementing training sessions, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms can facilitate a culture of continuous learning and collaboration within the organization.

Artificial intelligence systems have gained access to various scientific and research fields, especially in the construction industry. The study seeks to confirm the vital role of introducing Knowledge Management (KM) integrated with Artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the projects. It requires qualifying engineers and imposing their current qualifications to achieve the benefits of Integration of AI Applications based on KM processes to perform their professional roles and recognize the need to develop their capabilities through training and development. The field survey was intended only for 85 engineers working on construction projects (public and private sectors). Three axes were clarified to allocate the extent of the sample response and determine the benefits of using the KM process and AI applications for the success of construction projects. The results showed a positive relationship between the demographic variables of the response and the benefit of using the KM process and AI applications and explaining the variance in the regression relationships. Therefore, the study suggests integrating AI applications based on the KM process to achieve business goals and effectively benefit and exchange management, as its use leads to faster and more effective decision-making, especially if the project strategy approves it. Efficient city logistics is essential to build smart sustainable cities where inhabitants’ well-being is a priority. Meanwhile, despite the great importance of city logistics processes, their improvement is problematic for many cities. Although solutions from the field of emerging technologies are more and more often used, the question is whether implementing technological tools and filling cities with sensors is a sufficient solution that can solve the problems of intensely growing urban freight transport. The aim of the paper is to examine the role of knowledge management in city logistics and identify barriers to the implementation of knowledge-based city logistics. A key element of the research procedure was an expert survey, to which 31 international experts specialising in city logistics issues were invited, characterised by extensive experience working on research projects in the area of interest. Four knowledge management processes have been transferred to the city logistics area. The results of the study show that the difficulties are observed mainly in the processes of data gathering and knowledge acquisition. The main reason for difficulties in that area is the reluctance of city users, retailers, transport and logistics operators to share information. Identifying these processes as the most problematic is a valuable hint for logistics managers, municipalities and academics. To improve knowledge-based city logistics, it is therefore necessary to focus on these processes and look for the best solutions and new forms of organisational and business support. The solution to the problems identified in the study is the proposal to create a city logistics collaborative knowledge base which is a combination of an IT tool ‐ the CL knowledge management platform, and the Freight Quality Partnership.

As advances in emerging technologies continue to transform the business landscape, knowledge sharing will become increasingly important to leveraging the unique core competencies of organizations so as to gain a competitive advantage. Despite emerging technologies being so popular in news and media publications, knowledge sharing remains an area of research that is under-researched in the emerging technologies context. This research aims to identify the barriers and factors to knowledge sharing within an emerging technology context. A comprehensive in-depth interview was conducted with 38 professionals working in 5 organizations engaged in the field of emerging technologies in order to arrive at the findings discussed in this paper. Based on the analysis of the surveys, we found that there are six main factors driving the need for sharing knowledge. The six factors are: regular cadence, integrating expertise from different teams, diversity-inclusive social environment, Interconnected platforms that are accessible to all, a regular update schedule that needs to be followed, to create points of contact within different departments of an organization in order to facilitate sharing. It is important to note that the distribution and use of knowledge in organizations is dependent on the interactions between individuals. Keywords knowledge sharing, emerging technologies, factors influencing knowledge sharing, diversity and inclusion of knowledge

A survey on status and trends of information and communication technologies (ICT) use for knowledge sharing in agriculture was attempted. Among asian countries, India comes under the second next category after the advanced user category comprising Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Both profit-motive and business augmentation on one hand and community services and rural welfare on the other have been the objectives of ICT-based models in agriculture in India. Major ICTs endeavours for agriculture and rural concerns include multifaceted projects and services of National Informatics Centre, 'Bhoomi' of Karnataka, Village Information Centres of Government of India, ITC's e-Choupal, TARAhaat, iKisan.com, i-Villages of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry) of Swaminathan Research Foundation, i-Community of Hewlett-Packard, Warana Wired Village Project, n-Logue, 'Gyandoot' of Government of Madhya Pradesh, Knowledge Network for Grass Root Innovations of the Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institution, Traditional Knowledge Digital Library and several others. The ICT endeavours for agriculture belong to a wide array of agencies, viz private sector, public sector, self-help groups and NGOs, and also include combined endeavours. e-Learning is being increasingly resorted to both in (i) in campus or 'presence' mode, and (ii) 'distance' mode. Its use is gradually easing-out the stakeholders from the stranglehold of the inter-deterrence of the 3 arms of the 'Iron Triangle', viz (i) quality, (ii) access, and (iii) cost. The social groups having less mobility are poised to benefit more from this mode of education. This could also be one of the potent tools to bring about gender mainstreaming. e-Learning is being integrated into the existing organizational and educational structure as a hybrid system that can be called 'ICT-supported learning'. Connectivity, content development, infrastructure development, faculty development, need assessment on a continuum, linking the nodes and formation of consortia etc. are the areas identified that need to be supported and developed.

The concept of knowledge management is becoming increasingly prevalent in academic and vocational literature. The objective of this article is to review the conceptual foundations of knowledge management starting with a conceptual clarification of knowledge relative to data and information. The characteristics in terms of forms, levels and categories of knowledge are discussed. Against this background a definition of knowledge management is sought which is compared with information management. The increasing emphasis placed on knowledge in an organisational context has given rise to a new manifestation of capital which occurs as human or structural intellectual capital. Therefore, the relation of knowledge management to corporate memory as well as the learning organisation is indicated. There are various ways in which knowledge management can be interpreted, the first being analogy; three of which occurring frequently in discussions of knowledge management (biological, economical and their convergence in bionomics) are discussed. Secondly, an indication of a paradigm shift in the approach to management is outlined and the different management styles (top-down, bottom-up and middle-up-down) are contrasted in relation to knowledge management. Finally the underlying approaches to knowledge management (people-centred versus technologycentred) are considered.
