The Relationship between Knowledge Level and Attitude About Leucorrhoea with Vaginal Prevention Behavior in Adolescents

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are a population group aged 10-19 years. Knowledge and attitudes of young women about vaginal discharge affect the behavior of preventing vaginal discharge which aims to maintain the cleanliness of the genital organs. Normal physiological vaginal discharge is white or clear. Abnormal vaginal discharge is characterized by changes in color, consistency, volume, odor, and may be associated with symptoms of itching, pain, dysuria, pelvic pain, or intermenstrual or postcoital bleeding. Methods: This research method is an analytic observational cross-sectional. The number of samples was 107 students of class XI with a sampling technique using total sampling. The independent variable used is the level of knowledge and attitudes about vaginal discharge in SMA Negeri 1 Umbulsari, the dependent variable is the behavior of preventing vaginal discharge in adolescents at SMA Negeri 1 Umbulsari. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data analysis includes univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi square test. Results: The results showed that most of the students' knowledge had a pretty good category of 64.5%. The attitude variable in the category of moderately agrees is 65.4%. The behavior of preventing vaginal discharge as much as 56.1% had good vaginal discharge prevention behavior. The results of thetest of the chi square relationship between knowledge and attitude towards whiteness p = 0.00 (p < 0.05). The relationship between vaginal discharge attitudes and vaginal discharge prevention behavior was p = 0.031 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: These data indicate that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the attitude of vaginal discharge and there is a relationship between attitudes and behavior to prevent vaginal discharge. Vaginal discharge is one of reproductive tract infections that commonly occure among teenage girls. It actually does not need a treatment, but its impact will lead to infertility and cervical cancer. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with the occurrence of pathologic vaginal discharge among high school girls in Kayong Utara Regency. This study was an analytical obervational research with cross sectional approach. Sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Sample size were 59 respondents. Data were collected by interview using questionnaire. Data analysis was done by chi square test. Results showed that there were significant association between knowledge of vulva hygiene (p=0.036), vaginal cleaning motion (p=0.025), use of vaginal cleanser (p=0.002), tight underwear (p=0.007), and use of public toilets (p=0.021) with pathologic vaginal discharge. There were no significant association between obesity and pathologic vaginal discharge (p=0.587). Factors associated with pathological vaginal discharge were knowledge of vulva hygiene, vaginal cleaning motion, use of vaginal cleanser, use of tight underwear, and use of public toilets.

Introduction: Leucorrhea was a prolonged problem that has been experienced by women, especially teenagers. Teenagers are part of a population that are at risk. Pathological leucorrhea which is not prevented and handled properly can cause various disease and have a fatal end. This research aimed to know how were the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of vaginal hygiene towards pathological leucorrhea phenomenon on first grade female students in 1 Senior High School of Denpasar City. Method: This research was a descriptive study with cross-sectional method. The research subject was 106 first grade female students in 1 Senior High School of Denpasar City. The data were collected on 26th of July 2018. This research used primary data from the questionnaire that had been filled out.Result: The results showed that the level of knowledge about vaginal hygiene was 99,9% good and 0,1% bad. The level of attitudes about vaginal hygiene was 100% good. The level of behavior about vaginal hygiene was 98,2% good and 1,8% bad.Conclusion: Most of the student in Senior High School 1 Denpasar have a good level of knowledge, attitude, and behavior towards vaginal hygiene.

Berdasarkan hasil Survei Kesehatan Reproduksi Remaja Indonesia (SKRRI) tahun 2010 menunjukan bahwa remaja putri usia 15-24 tahun mempunyai risiko lebih tinggi terhadap infeksi atau keputihan patologis. Berdasarkan hasil survei mawas diri di desa Cilayung terdapat 226 remaja putri yang mengalami keputihan, sebagian besar remaja putri kurang memahami mengenai kesehatan reproduksi secara umum, khususnya dalam penanganan keputihan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku remaja putri dalam penanganan keputihan di Desa Cilayung. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 81 remaja putri yang ada di Desa Cilayung. Sampel yang dipilih yaitu Simple Random Sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah kuisioner. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa remaja putri yang berpengetahuan baik sebesar 61,7%, remaja putri yang bersikap positif sebesar 56,8%, remaja putri yang berperilaku positif sebesar 50,6%,remaja putri yang berpengetahuan baik serta bersikap positif sebesar 68,0%, dan remaja putri yang berpengetahuan baik serta berperilaku baik sebesar 62%. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah penanganan keputihan yang dilakukan oleh remaja putri di Desa Cilayung dilihat dari tingkat pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku termasuk kedalam kategori baik.Kata Kunci : Penanganan Keputihan, pengetahuan, perilaku, sikap
