Contemporary Pracces of Data Journalism on the Internet in
Arab Media
Abstract:
The current study aimed to evaluate the recent emerging Arabic experiments in the eld of data journalism,
based on the content analysis tool to idenfy the paerns of stories and news reports driven by the data, which
were presented through the websites “ the sample of this study” , as well as the nature of the topics, idenfying
the methods of narraon, visual representaon tools, sources and types of data. The study shows two main
themes. Firstly, status of data journalism is sll in its early stages, and what is noted is the idea of aracng to the
percepons of data by highlighng the value essenally while other contexts that require further invesgaons
are absent. Secondly, data journalism is a connuous interacon between two exisng models: the primary is
that data journalism refers to a paern of journalism that relies on transmission of facts based on quanable
evidence. The secondary model suggests that data journalism refers to the mixing and overlapping between
compung and journalism to come up with a new angle for the news story.
