There are numerous controversies in research exploring personality dynamics and intrapsychic processes, e.g. insufficient insight provided by available measures such as self-report questionnaires. As a consequence, new methods are developed. Some of the recent theories indicate that self-esteem is not a stable personality trait, but a dynamic construct fluctuating as a result of (mostly) social interactions. I present a semi-structured interview protocol as a method of data collection which can provide rich verbal and non-verbal material referring to self-esteem regulation. Analysis system is not included as there can be many different approaches to use collected data, e.g. qualitative content analysis or narrative inquiry methods. In this paper, I present exemplary statements of participants corresponding to every part of the interview. The examples are explained considering theoretical background. Finally, the strengths and limitations of presented method are discussed, as well as possible research areas to explore with it.

For many generations, works of art have been a source for experiencing beauty. They add to the wealth of our culture because they convey universal themes and values. In this study, we treat paintings as a stimulus for personal story-telling. The purpose was to explore the affective quality of personal meanings present in autobiographical narratives. Our findings show that subjective ratings of the beauty of figurative paintings are linked with the quality and theme of personal experiences recalled in response to viewing them, but not related to the length of the story. ‘Beautiful’ pictures elicit descriptions of desirable experiences associated with passive contemplation and satisfied self-enhancement motive. ‘Non-beautiful’ pictures call to mind difficult experiences linked with frustration. The experts formulated longer self-narratives inspired by paintings rated beautiful in comparison to laypersons, and laypersons formulated longer self-narratives inspired by paintings rated not beautiful in comparison to experts. The results are discussed in connection to the nature of the aesthetic experience and specificity of personal maenings.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie związków pomiędzy strategią regulacji emocji i inklinacją autonarracyjną, a efektywnością zawodową, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wyników przeprowadzonego badania korelacyjnego. Badaniem objęci zostali konsultanci call center, których zadania zawodowe wymagają sprawnego radzenia sobie z sytuacjami emocjonalnie trudnymi. Uzyskane wyniki pozwalają przypuszczać, że tłumienie emocji wpływa negatywnie na poziom wykonywanych zadań.

The paper is a report on Polish adaptation of Awareness of Narrative Identity Questionnaire, ANIQ. The awareness of narrative identity is seen as a meta-cognitive ability, that refers to the awareness of having life stories as well as the perception of the global coherence of autobiographical memories in terms of temporal order, causal associations, and themes. The psychometric properties of the Polish version (reliability, internal validity, criterial validity and test-re-test stability) are presented. In order to establish the equivalence of ANIQ-PL, the results from original and Polish version are compared. Psychometric properties legitimate the usage of ANIQ-PL for research purposes and the beginning cross-cultural studies.

This study tested a model of emotional processes over the course of emotion-focused therapy for trauma. The model of emotional processing (Pascual-Leone & Greenberg, 2007) proposes a sequential order of shifting from "early expressions of distress" to "primary adaptive emotion" that aid in adaptive functioning. Thirty-eight participants were taken from a randomized clinical trial to examine in-session process from video recordings of treatment. The sample had an average age (M = 44.3 years) and the majority was female (55.3%) and of European descent (89.5%). The Classification of Affective Meaning States was used to examine changes in emotional processes during trauma narratives in both early and late sessions. Processes were related to treatment outcome as measured by the Impact of Event Scale and the Resolution Scale. Sessions later in treatment showed a higher frequency of primary adaptive emotions compared with early sessions (p < .001, r = .76). Primary adaptive emotions were also more frequent in good-outcome cases (p = .017). Using emotional processes as predictors correctly classified 67% of poor-outcome cases and 80% of good-outcome cases. Increases in primary adaptive emotions from early to late treatment sessions more than doubled the odds (2.2) of having a good treatment outcome. The order of emotion was concordant with the sequential model in early sessions and partially concordant in late sessions. Findings have implications for guiding therapeutic process in a productive manner that leads to trauma recovery. Changes in discrete emotions were related to good treatment outcome. The voice of people with intellectual disabilities (ID) is needed in the literature to best understand their unique experiences and perspectives. Researchers face challenges in conducting interviews with people with ID who are limited in conceptual and verbal language skills. It can also be difficult to obtain participants with ID because of confidentiality and additional safeguards necessary for vulnerable populations. To give voice to people with ID through qualitative research, additional considerations and interview strategies are needed. Through a phenomenological study with 14 young adults with ID, I explored strategies and ethical considerations to access participants, obtain informed consent, and conduct interviews. The research accommodations are described and suggestions for future research with people with ID are presented.

Interparental Conflict and Child Development is a 2001 text that provides an in-depth analysis of the rapidly expanding body of research on the impact of interparental conflict on children. Emphasizing developmental and family systems perspectives, it investigates a range of important issues, including the processes by which exposure to conflict may lead to child maladjustment, the role of gender and ethnicity in understanding the effects of conflict, the influence of conflict on parent–child, sibling, and peer relations, family violence, and interparental conflict in divorced and step-families. It also addresses the implications of this research for prevention, clinical intervention, and public policy. Each chapter examines relevant conceptual and methodological questions, reviews on pertinent data, and identifies pathways for future research. Thus, the book serves to chart the course for continued investigation into the links between marital and child functioning.

Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich mit der »Entwicklungsnische« der Intergenerativität. Beziehungen zwischen jungen und sehr alten Menschen werden differenziert nach Entwicklungsphasen des jungen Menschen untersucht und anhand vorliegender Studienergebnisse des Projekts Echo der Generationen und assoziierter Studien systematisch konzeptualisiert und axiomatisch begründet. Die hohe Bedeutung des alten Menschen für die Humanontogenese fordert entwicklungsfördernde Räume für Jung und Alt geradezu heraus.

P> Die These von einer Achsenzeit in der Weltgeschichte Die zentrale Annahme dieses Buches ist die universalgeschichtliche These von einer Achsenzeit (880–200 v. Chr.) in der Weltgeschichte, in der voneinander unabhängig in China, Indien und dem Abendland strukturell ähnliche kulturelle Revolutionen und Aufbrüche erfolgt sind. Inwieweit diese Aufbrüche für das kulturelle Leben in der Gegenwart weiterhin bedeutsam sind, wird heute in kulturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen wie der Religions- und Kultursoziologie, der vergleichenden Kulturtheorie, der Theorie der Moderne u.a. neu diskutiert. Neben der These von der Achsenzeit wird in Vom Ursprung und Ziel der Geschichte u.a. der Stellenwert von Wissenschaft und Technik in der Moderne erörtert; es werden Überlegungen über eine mögliche Welteinheit (im Sinne eines Weltfriedenszustandes) angestellt sowie zeitgeschichtliche Tendenzen in der Politik (z.B. Totalitäts- und Planungsideologien) kritisiert, die im Gegensatz zu Jaspers’ liberalem Ethos der Freiheit und der Humanität stehen.</P
