Évolution Des Représentations de l'intelligence Artificielle : De Quelle(s) IA Wikipédia Est-Elle l'encyclopédie ?

Abstract

The Wikipedia encyclopedia plays a key role in knowledge mediation toward the public. This paper analyses the representations of artificial intelligence (AI) that appear in this encyclopedia. We therefore study the evolution of the article AI (on the French edition of Wikipedia) over the last nineteen years: its content, its references and the network of linked articles. We show that this article presents a rather incomplete and unbalanced view of the topic, and that its development often follows the journalistic coverage of related events. Several plausible causes are investigated and weighted against the principles that rule Wikipedia.
