Background
•Reducing inconsistencies in entry-level training in pain
management may help alleviate the burden of chronic
pain.1-5
•Na:onal strategies call for the development of pain
management competencies to help with this process.1,2,6

competencies for individual professions in specific

Conclusion
•This research extends past work by using innova:ve
par:cipatory methodologies to create a pain
management competency profile that is specific to
one profession (PT) and region (Canada).
•The robust consensus-building and par:cipatory
research methods used may be useful to
other healthcare professions and geographic regions.

profile for pain management specific to the Canadian
physical therapy (PT) context.
