Attributes of Travel Destinations that Influence Tourists' Decisions: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Making decisions on where to travel may be very exhilarating for tourists but can be quite difficult when it comes to selecting what interesting places to visit and explore. There had been a number of published research studies that discussed travel destinations and influence tourists' decision but few journals synthesized these studies to guide experts make informed decision in travel and tourism industry. This research was intended to provide a systematic review of the attributes of travel destinations that influence tourists' decisions. This paper presented a classification of more than 50 review studies, published in various travel, tourism and hospitality books, articles, and journals listed in EBSCO, ProQuest, Research Gate, and Google Scholar. Using the PRISMA model, the research studies were screened, scrutinized and analyzed to identify and substantiate the attributes of a travel destination that influence tourists' decision. Results of the study showed that there are 5A's that attributes travel destination namely accommodation, articulated stories, affordability, accessibility, and attribution. The study provided an overview of the decision of tourists in choosing a travel destination and focused on the factors decision-making and destination. Furthermore, it serves as guides for business owners to know the deciding factors of tourists and make informed decision to make the business afloat and keep going.

Introduction
The essence of tourists’ decision in choosing a destination is of much significance in determining
the best places to go that links them to the critical aspects that may influence the decision-
making (Lozanov, 2018). Tourism in Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) developed marketing strategies to augment tourist arrivals (TARR) from
different parts of the world (Jariyachamsit, 2019). Each destination has its own qualities
and amenities to offer. The attributes of a travel destination that may influence a tourist
decision include accessibility, place, price, safety and security, and political stability
(Jariyachamsit, Jannit, & Praditpong, 2020). It was also mentioned that what influence

decision-making include the condition of the place or destination quality, management and
environment, transportation, safety and security, culture, likeness of the area, reason and
cost of travel (Pooi, 2006).
The main idea of this review is to figure out the attributes of a travel destination
that influence a tourist’s decision. There were several researches that contribute to this
field. However, only few studies identify the said variables of study. Specifically, this
systematic review aimed to determine the preferences of tourists in choosing a travel
destination. Comprehensive reviews on this study are quite few because decision-making
process is multi-faceted and complex that are influenced by several factors affecting
consumer behavior (Seyidov & Adomaitiené, 2016). There were topics on tourism
concepts that were reviewed individually (Guillet, Lee, Law & Leung, 2011).
Choosing a travel destination is a complex process for tourists (Ni, Tsao & Wang,
2017). The results of this study could be a critical aspect in determining the significant
aspects that influence tourists’ selection of a place and an attraction (Dahiya & Batra,
2016). Travel destinations that feature their attractions, image, price, amenities,
accessibility, location attractiveness, comfort, safety and security, local cuisine, recreation,
entertainment, souvenir shops, and human resources some of the aspects present in a travel
destination that influence the decision of tourists (Seyidov & Adomaitienė, 2016; Das,
Sharma, Mohapatra & Sarkar, 2007; Cho, 2008; Madhavan & Rastogi, 2011; Khuong &
Nguyen, 2017; Zainali, Jafarpour, Hessam & Zolghadr, 2014). Tourists have their own
expectations by identifying certain features of a destination that attracts them and influence
them in choosing a place including architecture, culture, food, landscape and shopping
stores (Mirabent, 2019). Word of mouth that is taken affirmatively strongly affects tourist
revisit intention which contributes to understanding the attributes of a travel destination
(Singh & Singh, 2019). Moreover, word of mouth influences the destination attribute that
plays a crucial role in determining a tourist’s choice for an attraction, satisfaction, and
price (Mohammad, 2020).
There are six components in a travel destination that attract tourists including the
type of accommodation, entertainment, food, tourism, and transportation that are often
characterized by its accessibility, attraction, comfort, facilities, and conditions of mobility
(Deng, Xu & Wei, 2021). It is extremely important for destinations to constantly provide
the highest standard in providing their services to address the tourists’ needs and wants so
that they could ensure their satisfaction (Camilleri, 2018).
Giving these attributes would provide decision makers of various tourism industries
in different countries to plan and strategize their commitment in dealing with difficulties in
the future and enhance destinations for better tourist preferences (Najafi, Raessi, Gorji,
Ahmadi & Haghighi, 2017).
Research Methodology
Applying the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines, the
researcher searched from various databases such as EBSCO, ProQuest, ResearchGate,
Google Scholar, using the terms “attributes of travel destinations”, “influence of tourists’
decisions”, and “choosing a destination of tourists” (Siddaway, Wood & Hedges, 2018).
Manual search was also conducted. This captured the pertinent lists of needed articles for
the entire review process that started from October 2020 to December 2020. The researcher
applied the systematic review approach to establish accuracy and regulated process (Okoli,
2015).

The selection process were collected from the electronic search results and were
screened based on the title and abstract to determine the potential eligible articles and later
on the researcher crossed-checked the initial results on the basis of attributes of tourist
destinations influencing tourists’ decisions. In searching for these categories, records
should aim on identifying and enumerating the attributes that influence tourists deciding to
travel to a certain destination.
Original research included systematic reviews, meta-analysis, peer-reviewed and
academic journals, and paper presentations from conference proceedings. Several articles
from the internet and tourism books were also included for additional data and
clarifications. Commentaries and editorials were excluded. Only articles in English
including those that were translated in the English language were included. All the articles
were independently screened in complete full text to confirm eligibility.
The data collection methods include a data extraction form that was designed prior
to data gathering. The researcher extracted study characteristics including the name/s of the
author/s, year of publication, research title, research journal, volume, issue number, pages,
research objective/s, key words or delineated factors, locus, method of study, and salient
findings related to the factors influencing tourists’ decisions.
The search strategy resulted in 1,948 citations. After screening the titles, there were
only 211 articles left related to the variables under study, 93 did not refer to the aspects that
influence tourists, 57 did not refer to tourists’ decision-making, and 11 did not involve
tourists. The remaining 50 references covered the variables that were related to the travel
destinations that influence tourists’ decision. After analyzing these aspects, the most
notable approach in each case were noted.

Results and Analysis
This section described and explained the different variables involved in the attributes of a
travel destination that influence tourists’ decisions according to various literature studied in
tourism, hospitality, and management.
Following the results in the study of authors Kijima, Novani, Widiana, Palumian,
and Cintyawati (2020), it was decided that in this research, the attributes of travel
destinations that influence tourists’ decision can be divided in five aspects or 5 A’s
including accommodation, articulated stories, affordability, accessibility, and attribution.
Each variable that influence tourists’ decision was described.
Accommodation (Hotels and Restaurants)
Accommodation is one of the most important aspects for people traveling when they spend
overnight stay and dine outside their usual abode (Westscott, 2019). The variables related
to accommodation include hotel, restaurant, service of hotel, and quality of service in
restaurant including the variety of foods offered in the menu (Kijima, et. al., 2020 &
Gunasekaran and Anandkunar, 2012). Hotels and accommodation are both important in
promoting tourism because they play a significant role in making a tourist destination
popular (Ahiya, 2010). The quality and quantity of accommodation directly influence the
totality of a successful tourist destination (Sharpley, 2000). Aside from the quality,
affordable and budget friendly supplementary accommodations can directly and indirectly
influence a guest’s purchase and choice (Poudel, 2013). Choosing a place to stay especially
in hotels is a complex task for guests. Tourists’ decision are influenced by reviews done
online or online assessments, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Online Travel Agent
(OTA), and many more. These factors influence the final decision in choosing a hotel
accommodation (Pantelic, 2017).
Primary findings reveal that the location of a budget hotel, cleanliness, comfort, hotel
staff services, maintenance, food and beverage and value for money of room rates are
among the significant factors that influence tourists (Samy, 2016). Other findings say that
the quality of services and facilities in a hotel, quality customer service of staff, hotel
safety and security, and clean rooms influence customer’s choice in choosing an
accommodation (Peace, 2018).
Articulated Stories
Articulated stories or the so called word of mouth (WOM) is another significant part of
promoting a destination and of equal importance when influencing tourists (Jalilvand &
Samiei, 2012). It is an essential element of promotion especially if the message and
delivery are strong (Sweeny, Soutor & Mazzarol, 2008). WOM has an impact to the
decision-making of tourists after an experience on a trip (Harris, 2014). One of the most
important sources of information when purchasing a travel package is through articulated
stories online shared mostly by bloggers and vloggers. These travel experiences shared
online makes a huge impact on the electronic word-of-mouth tourism and hospitality that
helps in marketing a destination and consequently making part of the influence in making a
decision (Litvin, Goldsmith & Pan, 2008). It plays as a mediating role in influencing the
perceived image of a place to the tourist’s intention of choosing a destination (Xu, Niu &
Li, 2020). The intention of purchasing a tourist product is distinctively influenced by so
many travel experiences passed on from one tourist to another (Chen & Chen, 2018).
Electronic word of mouth is effective to tourists because they usually surf the internet
before planning and deciding their next destination (Kijima et. al., 2020).

Studies show that tourists are continuously more influenced on comments and
opinions of friends and relatives when arranging a travel and choosing a destination than
those who just simply surf the internet. One of the most comprehensive channels where
tourists gather information are travel blogs, travel destination websites, travel vlogs, and
other travel social networking sites (Mendez, Leiva & Fernandez, 2012). In the study of
Hao (2017), it was found out that word of mouth and destination image have an impact in
decision-making of tourists. A study disclosed, that the image of a destination and
electronic word-of-mouth have direct influence on tourist loyalty and directly affects their
intention to visit (Kanwel, Lingqiang, Asif, Hwang, Hussain & Jameel, 2019). Studies
show that destinations which offer high quality of service would lead to repeat visitors
because they eventually share their unforgettable experiences with friends and
acquaintances (Çelik, Yüsbaşioğlu & Topsakal, 2017). Tourists tend to revisit a destination
if they are satisfied in the attractiveness of culture and high quality of service
accommodation (Viet, Dang & Nguyen, 2020).
Accessibility
In 2019, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and ONCE
Foundation launched the Accessible Tourism Destination (ATD) to boost the accessibility
in tourist destinations. Accessibility pertains to tourism products, services, and facilities
that do not only focus on human rights but also to equip destinations with business
opportunities, to accept all guests and to augment their revenues (APEC, 2003).
In the study of Zeng & He (2018), one of the factors influencing tourist flow is
transportation meaning transportation expense and network. Road quality and
infrastructure are very much of great influence on travel because a modernized road
network leads to increase traffic flow that boosts the number of passengers and tourists in a
destination (Mazrekaj, 2020). Public transportation plays a vital role in a destination’s
accessibility. It is a key factor to note that ease of access, an existing and effective public
transportation connects more tourist flows (Yang, Li & Li, 2017). Public transport that
includes travel time, comfort, and trip length of passengers are also vital in determining
customer satisfaction (Hansson, Pettersson, Svensson & Wretstrand, 2019).
Affordability
The fourth aspect that influence tourists’ decision is affordability. It includes local people’s
hospitality, cleanliness, safety and security, affordability near a tourist attraction, and
affordable food and beverage (Kijima, et.al., 2020).
There are five A’s of tourism that include Attraction, Activities, Accessibility,
Accommodation, and Amenities. However, there is a sixth ‘A’ that is equally important in
influencing tourists to a destination and that is Affordability. Affordable tourism
destination such as cost of travel, rates of accommodation, and entrance fees to attractions
would definitely help in making a successful destination (Samuel, 2020). One of the
studies show that most of the customers believe that online hotel booking is convenient,
more reliable, faster, and cheaper than booking offline (Teng, Wu & Chou, 2020). In the
study of Chen, Tsai, and Chiu (2015), it was found that price is a significant factor in
choosing hotels even of low quality. Khuong and Nyuyen (2017) considered the perceived
price as a factor of a destination choice. Xiang (2013) described Chinese tourists as frugal,
hedonistic and mixed tourists so it is important to consider affordability of tourism
products. Perceived affordability and availability of personal finances encourage tourists to

spend more. Affordability significantly increased in the Traveller Sentiment Index (TSI)
according to Kandzavelou (2015).
Aside from the attractiveness of a destination, people related factors like local
residents who are tourists friendly can make the destination remain attractive to visitors
(Vengesayi, Mavondo & Reisinger, 2009). The results in Udoh’s (2019) study revealed
that the hospitality of people can influence attraction in a tourist destination.
Cleanliness is another attribute to consider that should be considered in a tourist
destination because unclean destinations can have a negative impact on tourist satisfaction
(Hasugian, Sukarta & Syafariani, 2016).
Cost of stay in a tourist establishment includes the price of accommodation, food
and beverage (F & B), transportation, products, and services. If the cost of stay increases,
chances are tourist satisfaction may decrease (Suanmali, 2014).
Safety and security are both important that have become main aspects influencing
security issues and a passive factor as an element of tourism with the act of protecting
tourists and their belongings during the trip (Kővári & Zimányi, 2011).
Attribution
Attribution includes the existence of souvenir shops and local events or ceremonies
(Kijima, et.al., 2020). Studies show that brand-related attributions influence satisfaction.
Pleasure and place attachments enhance effects of a tourism experience as well (Orth, et
al., 2012).
Souvenir shopping is another important part of a travel package that may
characterize the totality of a travel experience (Kong & Chang, 2016). Shopping for
tourists is an essential activity because a trip is not complete without buying souvenirs or
anything from a destination (Yuksel, 2004). Chinese that are categorized as hedonistic
tourists purchase multiple souvenirs (Xiang, 2013). Shopping tourism can also be
considered as a competitive factor in influencing tourists in choosing a destination (Silva,
Breda, Brandão, Costa & Costa, 2019). In the study of Zainali, Jafarpour, Hessam &
Zolghadr (2014), shopping experience is considered as part of tourist satisfaction where
tourists’ level of satisfaction lies on the stores or souvenir shops. Shopping may not be a
major reason for travel but it can be a motivator for a tourist to go to a place that offers
enjoyable buying experience in certain destinations (Azmi, Ahmad, Abdullah & Shaw,
2019).
Events and event destination also plays an important role in establishing a
destination attraction because a successful event leads to greater visitor satisfaction and
loyalty that leads to repeat events and tourists (Oklobdžija, 2015).
Conclusion and Implication of the Study
There are plenty of researches related to tourists and tourism but the variables that
encompasses the attributes of a travel destination that influence tourists’ decision is quite
few. There is a series of variables that influence the decision of tourists in choosing a
destination. These variables are classified into accommodation, articulated stories,
accessibility, affordability, and attribution. According to the literatures studied, one of the
aspects that influence tourists’ decision is accommodation that includes hotels and
restaurants. This is because it is considered as one of the most important attributes in any
destination may they be big or small, luxurious or simple, expensive or cheap. A place to
stay overnight or more is quite significant for the traveler’s safety and can enrich the

overall experience in the destination. The role of accommodation surely influences a
tourist’s decision.
With respect to another variable ‘articulated stories’ or the so called ‘word of
mouth’, it is a significant attribute in influencing tourists to make decisions because this
variable spreads very fast and directly affects decision-making based on the quality of
tourism experience. This experience is a great aspect to convince or influence other tourists
in visiting a destination.
The variable ‘accessibility’ influences tourists because road quality and
infrastructure including the means of transporting tourists from one place to another has an
effect on tourists’ experience and overall quality of stay. Availability of public
transportation to all kinds of tourists, whether physically able or not, is an important factor
to enable to reach the intended place of attraction and enjoy the experiences in the
destination.
The other variables ‘affordability’ and ‘attribution’ are definitely attributes
to consider in influencing tourists’ decision. Affordability may be a contrast to
convenience because it may pay a higher price considering a more convenient and
luxurious trip. Attribution that is related to availability of souvenir shops is a special part of
a trip. Buying souvenir items make tangible items intangible brought by memories of the
tourist destination.
Limitations and Directions for Future Research
This research is delimited to the attributes of travel destinations that influence tourists’
decisions during the COVID pre-pandemic period. Future lines of study will attempt to
determine if these variables are still true and how it will affect the expenditure of tourists in
these destinations and the country’s GDG amidst the current pandemic situation. It would
be interesting to explore on the attributes of travel destinations that influence tourists’
decisions during pandemic and post-pandemic period. It is recommended to explore the
different attributes of tourist’s decision based on geographical location and region to assists
and guide business owners, strategize and predict plan intervention that benefit domestic
and international tourism industry of various countries.

The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship of destination image on tourist delight with moderating effect of the travel attributes included, affordability and accessibility on the above relationship. This study is related with the mountain tourism and targets different tourist destinations of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa Pakistan. Data is collected through questionnaires and stratified convenient sampling technique is use to select the sample. This sample is a comprised respondent from three main regions/strata which consists of the Malakand division, the Mansehra division, and the Galiyat region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the causal relationship between variables of the study on Smart PLS 4 because Smart PLS is a robust application for analyzing the complex model with several constructs and structural paths without enforcing distributional assumptions on the data. This study evaluates the strong relationship between destination image and tourist delight and founds insignificant effect of moderating variable. Although, this research focuses on mountain tourism in Pakistan. The future studies can be conduct on other types of tourism such as sports tourism, cultural tourism, shopping tourism and religious tourism etc. Moreover, variables used in this study may also be investigated in future research endeavors. This study will provide a broad picture of the tourist delight concept and literature will demonstrate more information on tourist delight. Oliver's theory of tourist delight and Gartner's destination image theory is adopted for theoretical support.

This study aimed at identifying the factors influencing tourists’ decisions in choosing their vacation destinations as well as factors influencing their behavior. An online survey was applied to 861 Romanian tourists. The principal component analysis was run to reduce the dimensionality of the 23 items and used to determine the factors that influence tourists’ decision in choosing their destination, leading to a four-component solution. The results indicated that aspects related to destination image, destination unique characteristics and the accommodation facilities are more important for women than for the men. Regarding the travel organization factor, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Families and older tourists with high incomes are positively linked to the length of stay. These insights on the factors influencing tourists’ decision-making process are of the utmost importance for managers and overall tourism service providers in the design of marketing and management strategies in accordance to tourists’ expectations and needs.

Making general decisions on where to travel may be very exciting for tourists but it can be quite challenging when it comes to choosing the exact fascinating places to visit and discover. There have been several research studies published that examine vacation destinations and how travellers make decisions, but few publications have combined these studies to help professionals in the travel and tourism business make well-informed decisions. This research was intended to examine tourists’ decisions to attend the Seremban Street Art in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Attributes to travel destination consist of 5A’s namely accommodation, articulated stories, affordability, accessibility, and attribution. A total of 69 respondents were involved in this survey. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to the respective sample by utilizing a convenience sampling technique. All data were extracted by using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The results of the study indicate that accessibility is the main attribute of tourists’ decisions to travel destinations whereby accommodation is the attribute that least influences tourists’ decisions on travel destinations. The study focused on the decision-making and destination aspects and summarized how visitors make their destination decisions. Moreover, it acts as a reference for business owners to understand the aspects that influence tourists' decisions and consequently help them make wise decisions to keep their businesses afloat.

Nature-inspired optimization models have received a great deal of interest due to the performance of these algorithms in solving resourceful and authentic problems. However, achieving high predictive accuracy in machine learning models for specialized domains, such as the tourism industry, remains challenging. Predictive modelling in tourism is vital for improving decision-making, including forecasting visitor behaviours and enhancing customer experiences. As the volume and complexity of tourism data increase, there is a need for optimization methods that enhance model training while effectively handling intricate datasets. This study proposes a hybrid FOX-TSA algorithm to optimize the MLP model. The hybrid algorithm synergises the Fox Optimization Algo-rithm's exploration capabilities with the Tree-Seed Algorithm's exploitation strengths. Using a tourism dataset with user preferences and ratings, the performance of the anticipated algorithm is compared with standalone FOX, TSA, PSO, and GWO algorithms. Results indicate that the hybrid FOX-TSA achieves superior predictive accuracy (94.64 %), faster convergence speed (reducing iterations by 25 %), and improved F1-score (94.63 %) on the test dataset. These findings underline the potential of the hybrid FOX-TSA algorithm to advance predictive modelling in the tourism sector and other domains requiring complex data handling.

Background and Aim: The tourism industry is a significant driver of economic growth, particularly in developing countries. Chiang Mai Province, especially Chiang Dao District, is a popular tourist destination in Thailand, known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance. This study aims to investigate the influence of marketing mix factors (product, price, place, and promotion) on the travel decisions of Thai tourists visiting Chiang Dao District. Materials and Methods: A quantitative research methodology was employed, involving a questionnaire survey of 385 Thai tourists visiting Chiang Dao District. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The findings reveal that all four marketing mix factors significantly influence Thai tourists' travel decisions. Product, encompassing the overall destination experience, was found to be the most influential factor. Price, place, and promotion also played significant roles in shaping tourists' choices. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of a comprehensive marketing mix strategy in attracting Thai tourists to Chiang Dao District. Tourism stakeholders should focus on developing unique product offerings, competitive pricing, enhancing the destination's ambiance, and implementing effective promotional campaigns to cater to the preferences of Thai tourists and ensure the sustainable growth of the tourism industry in the region

Especially for the tourism sector in Indonesia which relies heavily on natural resources and biodiversity, both in the waters or sea and mountains. The impact of climate change on the tourism sector can be immediately seen. Based on the background description above, this article will elaborate an overview of the influence of climate change and the potential impact on coral reef bleaching and its consequences on the tourism sector that may occur in Indonesia. This study aims to obtain the general portrait regarding the coral reef which may be affected by the climate change and the adaptation effort for oceanique tourism in Indonesia. The study uses a qualitative approach using library search. Supporting data and information were obtained from various literature in the form of books, reports, journals, magazines and relevant internet sites. Data is presented in the form of a narrative description and analyzed descriptively in accordance with the research objectives. The research delves into the preferences of tourists in Coron, Palawan, shedding light on their vacation destinations and the influential factors shaping their choices. The historical evolution of tourism traces its origins from the 17th-century Grand Tour to the 19th-century establishment of travel agencies like Thomas Cook & Son. Notable global tourist attractions, such as Italy and France, underscore the enduring allure of rich history, architecture, and cultural experiences. Meanwhile, the narrative expands to Asia, citing the Tiger Nest Temple in Bhutan, Siem Reap in Cambodia, and Bokeo Nature Reserve in Laos as top destinations. Particularly in the Philippines, Coron, Palawan, one of the renowned destinations in the globe, acknowledges its popularity with Kayangan Lake, Barracuda Lake, and the Twin Lagoon recognized as key attractions. The diverse demographic of respondents, predominantly aged 25-34 and representing varying income groups, adds depth to the study. Internal factors strongly influencing travel decisions include rest, adventure-seeking, and cultural exploration. Externally, factors such as friendliness of people, personal safety, and destination image hold substantial influence. Twin Lagoon emerges as the preferred destination, while Beach 91 ranks lower, underscoring variability in popularity. Age significantly influences destination preferences, warranting further investigation, while income disparities highlight the need for targeted marketing strategies or improvements in less popular destinations. Additionally, ethnicity/nationality proves to be a significant factor in determining preferred vacation destinations, emphasizing the dependency on cultural backgrounds.

This systematic literature review examines the determinants and consequences of memorable tourism experiences. The study finds that memorable experiences have a significant positive impact on tourist satisfaction, affective commitment, and storytelling behaviors. Additionally, the study reveals that memorable experiences mediate the influence of destination image on tourist revisit intention. The review analyzes 47 related studies using Vos Viewer and provides recommendations for indicators and items applicable to natural tourist attractions, such as zoos and SeaWorld. The study also suggests that tourism activities should utilize tour guides and village tourism managers to foster interaction and engagement between tourism professionals and visitors. However, the study has two primary limitations. Firstly, the study focuses on visitors rather than tourism service providers as co-creators of experiences. Second, the study did not compare the outcomes of the co-creation process between positive and negative emotions. Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of memorable tourism experiences and provides insights for tourism marketers and policymakers to develop strategies that enhance these experiences.

Pricing remains a crucial phenomenon for companies operating in a competitive environment. When it comes to selecting a service, price often tends to be a significant consideration for most customers. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between price fairness and negative consumption emo-tion of passengers towards airline services. The respondents of this study are passengers who have travelled within one year from /to or within Malaysia using full-service airlines or low-cost carriers. The data was collected using online survey. Data analysis was done using SPSS and PLS-SEM software where 197 responses were suitable for analysis. The findings show that price fairness has negative re-lationship with negative consumption emotion. This indicates that price fairness plays an important role in reducing negative emotion of the passengers regardless of the situation. The findings of this study can assist airline managers towards understanding the negative impact of negative emotions, and thus provide managers with insights on balancing between fair price and good service.

The relationship between push and pull factors with the intention to revisit a destination has often been investigated in the context of general tourism. Not much is known on the factors influencing MICE destination revisit intentions, despite the numerous socioeconomic benefits that many countries have received from the MICE tourism business. This article attempts to fill the gap of knowledge by critically reviewing the literature using the integrative review approach. By reviewing, critiquing and synthesizing major literature on the issue, two push factors i.e. networking and educational opportunities and four pull factors i.e. destination image, travel costs, attraction and accessibility are established as influencing revisit intentions to MICE destination. Then a theoretical model of relationship between those factors and MICE destination revisit intentions is proposed.

In view of the fact that the important characteristics of tourism destination selection preference are not considered in the current prediction methods of tourism destination selection preference, resulting in low prediction accuracy and comprehensive accuracy and long prediction time, a tourism destination selection preference prediction method based on edge calculation is proposed. This paper uses edge computing to construct the characteristics of tourism destination selection preference and uses a random forest algorithm to select important features and carry out preliminary estimation and ranking. Using the multiple logit selection model, the tourists' preference sequence for tourism destination selection is obtained and sorted and the tourism destination selection preference model is obtained. By calculating the weight value of tourism destination selection preference, the weight set of tourism destination selection preference is determined and the tourism destination selection preference is determined according to the link prediction method to realize the tourism destination selection preference prediction. The experimental results show that the comprehensive accuracy of the proposed method is good, which can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of tourism destination selection preference and shorten the prediction time of tourism destination selection preference.

This paper explores the relationship between destination image, cultural contact, perceived risk, satisfaction, and the revisit intention of international tourists to Binh Thuan province in Vietnam based on data obtained from 405 international tourists. Employing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques, the study delivered two key results. The first finding is that revisit intention is directly affected by satisfaction, attractiveness, accommodation service, cultural contact, and perceived risk. Secondly, satisfaction is directly affected by attractiveness, accommodation service, cultural contact, and perceived risk. These results confirm the moderating role of both nationality and marital status on the relationships from cultural contact and attractiveness to satisfaction, but not revisit intention. However, the research has certain limitations: (i) due to the limited resources available to conduct the research, the sample size was limited to 405 international tourists in Binh Thuan province; and (ii) this study conducted sampling using direct interview methods of tourists during the peak season.

Indonesia, as an archipelago country, posits the third rank of the world’s longest coastline list. The potential of coastal tourism was voluminous to be developed in the future. Since the tourism contribution has a positive inclination during the years to GDP, the government put the tourism as one of the national development priority sector. However, the circumstances were not well-ready. Still, the beaches were not gaining substantial attention from the tourist for several areas even though it has a scenic view. The current study aims to analyze factors influencing tourist decision to choose the coastal area that may lead to tourism development in Southern Beaches of West Java. It is the most populated area and has many potential beaches. Methods used in this paper were mixed methods using a qualitative and quantitative approach. First, exploratory is conducted by interviews and analyzed manually by transcribed and coded to define what variables explored. Then, Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was done to examine the factors of influences tourist’ visit decision. The result demonstrates five factors are influencing the tourist decision to choose the Southern Beach tourism in West Java, i.e., hotel and restaurant, word of mouth testimony, access, convenience (cost and food attraction) and local attribution. Low price or convenience? What is more important for online and offline bookings? For the sustainable development of the hospitality industry, it is necessary to know the opinions of customers about their online/offline hotel booking experiences. This study aimed to predict the customers’ online/offline booking behavior toward a resort hotel in Taiwan by adapting the marketing mix elements. We first designed and executed a detailed questionnaire involving approximately 300 respondents from a five-star hotel in Taiwan, used hypothesis testing to extract important factors from the data, and finally used logistic regression of these factors to predict the customer choices effectively. The study results show that the majority of the customers believe that booking hotel services online provides for a broader choice, offers more discounts and more privacy than available while booking offline, and is cheaper, faster, and more reliable and convenient. The outcomes of logistic regression confirm that “broad choice,” but not “low price” has the most significant impact on the customers booking a resort accommodation online or offline. Furthermore, the results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) show that the younger customers (under the age of 45) and those with university degrees are significantly more likely to make the reservations online for a resort. The findings and the recommendations can provide valuable inputs to the resort industry practitioners in Taiwan for improving the online booking services.

In an era of mobile internet, word-of-mouth marketing has become a powerful tool for optimizing tourist destination marketing. Extensive research studies on the mechanism of word-of-mouth have been carried out. However, there is little research on the mechanism of word-of-mouth concerning tourist destinations in crisis. This article focuses on the influence mechanism of word-of-mouth in the relationship between perceived images and behavioral intentions. A structural equation model was established, with “perceived image” as the independent variable, “word-of-mouth” and “psychological distance” as mediating variables, and “behavioral intention” as the dependent variable. Our study is based on a survey in Southern Xinjiang. The final results show that word-of-mouth plays a mediating role in the relationship between perceived image and behavioral intentions. The moderating effect of word-of-mouth plays two roles in the mechanism of the perceived image on the behavioral intention: the promotion mechanism and the repression mechanism. Tourists’ sense of psychological distance significantly mediates the relationship between perceived image and behavioral intention. The findings enrich word-of-mouth and the marketing theories for the destinations in crisis, which provide enlightening insights for the sustainable development of the destinations in crisis.

The purpose of this article is to analyse quality attributes of regional public transport and their influence on modal choice, demand, and customer satisfaction through a literature review. The review is based on a working definition of regional public transport with boundaries toward local as well as interregional public transport: Regional public transport (i) targets passengers travelling between separate urban areas or to rural areas and (ii) a majority of the trips are made on a regular basis. Our results suggest that preferences of regional travellers mainly conform to the preferences of local travellers, but some important differences have been revealed. Most notably, on-board comfort is a higher priority for regional travellers and is increasingly important with longer travel times. Network coverage and coordination are also more prominent features of regional public transport, presumably due to the more dispersed nature of regional public transport networks. These differences, and the fact that the prerequisites for regional public transport are in general substantially different compared to local and interregional public transport, support continued use of this categorisation in public transport research. We also conclude that there is a requirement for more knowledge about the specifics of regional public transport, as public transport research, thus far, has been largely focused on local travel. Research areas of particular interest are on-board comfort, operational aspects, travel time improvements, how the environmental impact of public transport services affects modal choice, and the influence of trip length on passenger preferences.

Due to strong growth of hospitality industry and hotel sector specifically in recent years there is an increased need from management and industry professionals in order to understand how guest select hotels to stay in and what are decision making factors that prevail. Furthermore, goal of this paper is to research in depth and compare literature that is discussing selection process of hotel booking as well as what decision making process guest follow. Moreover, even after many years of study we still seem to know very little about how guest select their hotel to stay at as this area could possibly be subjective and tough to research. Additionally, this is also contributed to the fact that most of previous studies focused on choice attributes rather than decision-making process itself so therefore this paper will try to investigate wide spectrum of literature in order to possibly establish best practices in researching this topic and provide recommendation for future research. Most of the article analysis was investigated trough content analysis which is most objective and organized method of collected documentation that focuses on key theme around the topic investigated. Furthermore, this paper examines literature surrounding hotel selection processes well as customer decision-making process that is extremely needed in fast growing hospitality industry. The hospitality industry is very dynamic with lot of different categories and sectors under its umbrella such as hotel sector, aviation, food and beverage, travel and tourism to name a few. It is important to know that customer service arise as extremely important and common to all of the hospitality categories. Success of the business in hospitality industry mainly depends on how good and efficient are employees in providing service and ensuring that guest satisfaction is at its highest at all times. Additionally, for that same reason hospitality industry is often referred to as service industry. As introduction to topic goals this paper further examines means to an end theory. This theory discusses individuals who are goal driven and use product as a mean to an end, which further mean that an advantage of a service for the tourist is copied from the product or service that supports tourist in order to meet their need. Additionally, this theory has three main types: price, quality and value. After the introduction of the above-mentioned theory, development of the paper continues with the process of hotel selection. In this part of the report discussion is made on what hotel attributes influence selection, what motivates tourist in order to decide to travel as iv well as push and pull factors that are influencing tourist hotel selection. Further, hotel selection process framework is discussed and offers oversight of all stages of selection process such as evaluation, selection, booking and stay. Each stage is special and it has its important in entire process. Furthermore, this paper discuses decision-making process and focuses on four main attributes that literature established as most important in consolidated research. As mentioned earlier these attributes may be subjective and not necessary applicable to wide range of markets and cultures. Lastly, on the end this paper provides insight in developed literature map that explains attributes that influence hotel selection and have impact on decision-making process. Also it provides suggestions and recommendation need for future research as well as on what hospitality industry professional s could focus in order to understand hotel selection and decision making process from their guest in order to capitalize on it as well as satisfy needs by tourist visiting their properties.

The attractors of a destination are key elements of its appeal and play a vital role in the destination's success. Attractors such as architecture or culture have been identified as essential features of the destination's competitiveness and as distinguishing features useful for differentiating the destination's image from that of competitors. However, the limit between these two attractor roles is not yet definite. This investigation analyzes the function of different attractors in communication practices within the niche of European urban destinations. The study uses content analysis to identify the similarities and differences among the official communication of the 12 most popular urban destinations in Europe. The results point to tourism products and packages, cultural attractions, and gastronomy as critical elements for competing in this specific market. It further highlights that attractors such as history, accommodation, and leisure attractions act as the main sources for differentiation among the European cities.
